Gedcom Census, however, makes a backup copy of the file every time it is used, however, and it discards older backups automatically. I don't know whether it backs up before making the changes or after but there should be dated versions of the file in the folder "Gedcom Census Backups and Log" in the Documents folder (Windows 7) or its equivalent. 3. Thanks, Peter. Yes, I apologise for the temporary panic. After realising that the new gedcom file stopped halfway through the marriages, I copied and pasted the rest from the last backup I had and that worked out nearly OK. But then I realised what Peter said about the "Gedcom Census Backups and Log", which has restored me to where I was prior to the last census entry. Again apologies, I should have more faith in the failsafe of good programs. 3. Good as it is Gedcom Census is not the latest & greatest offering from Nick Walker. It was superseded by Ancestral Sources V1.0 in April 2010 and V2.0 in May 2011. Now it supports not only Census entry but also Baptisms, and Marriages should be next. It is available for free download from FHUG website http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi Also on that website there are introductory tutorials for the new features.
