    3. This situation is where Source Citations against each Fact come into their own. Facts such as your supposed Grandfather's name would be appear to be confirmed and the Source Citation for his Name would indicate that. Other confirmed facts such as his Birth or Death could similarly be supported with Source Citations with whatever Assessment is appropriate: Primary evidence, Secondary evidence, Questionable, Unreliable. The main Fact you are unsure about is his Marriage and this would be supported with a Source Citation that makes that uncertainty clear. Remember that when researching the past very few records can be 100% guaranteed and FH allows your assessment of certainty to be recorded. Then, the speculation could be entered as a note in [[ ]] - see "Private Notes" in the help file - against that person. You just have to remember when you print a report off, to suppress Private Notes. - you could have one individual in your GEDCOM to represent your GF and enter a second individual to contain the details of the speculated person. You then link the 2 guys with an association - go to the All tab for the individual, right click their name and choose Add Miscellaneous / Add Associated Person / Add Link to Existing Individual. You need to do this for BOTH guys but you can add a text to the Association saying "Possibly Same Person". I've not quite figured how to make that appear on diagrams though. You may also choose to make this guy Private. The second method is especially useful if you know genuine details about him but aren't sure if he is your relative, i.e. that John Doe may be my grandfather but whether he is or he isn't, he definitely died on DD MM YYYY. At the end, though, don't be afraid of putting speculation into your file PROVIDED it's clearly labelled as such. The brutal truth is that even if we are 95% sure of each individual on a generation, the odds of ALL that generation being correct are less than 95% - and a lot less, the further you go back and the more people you have. So if anyone gets sniffy about it, well, it gets more and more certain we've all gone wrong somewhere. Just console yourself that you recognise your problems and the sniffy ones don't! Adrian B
