To Jane's reply I would add the suggestion to add an unknown father and hang children off that relationship, rather than just adding the children directly to the Mother. After all, there must have been one, however transient. If and when you find the details, you simply update the Unknown individual with the appropriate details. It's also worth browsing or searching the FH Mailing List Archive; these subjects have invariably been discussed in the past.
