    3. Val, The first rule of "Merge" is to ensure you have backup copies of what you started with so you can undo the "Merge" if necessary. If all else fails then that is what you may have to do. Please check all the other details associated with you and your husband. Are the "Sex" entries of "Female" and "Male" correct? From what you say about his "relationship" is now "wife" it sounds as if these are reversed. Are all the other "Facts" such as "Birth" and "Marriage" correct? If not then are they simply swapped like the "Sex" entry? If everything has somehow got swapped then simply exchange the "Name" entries for you and your husband and all should be OK. If it is more complex than that, then it may be best to start again from scratch. "Record Id" numbers are allocated automatically by FH and you should never need to change them. However, "Tools > Work with Record Identifiers" does offer some possibilities. Use "Copy existing record ids into the Custom Id field" and "Perform Task". Edit the "Custom Id" in you and your husband's Individual records to swap 1 with 2. Then back in "Work with Record Identifiers" use "Generate new record ids by copying Custom Id values" and "Perform Task". But now (using Gedmill) he and I have exchanged record numbers, so that if I click on the index on his name, my record comes up instead of his. In Family Historian his "relationship" to me is now "wife" and he is Record No. 1 and I'm No. 2. I've steered clear of ever trying to change record numbers in the past. But I must have missed something when I merged his file with mine which caused this to happen. Please can someone tell me in (simple terms please) what I need to do with record numbers and relationships in Family Historian to put it right? Val

    3. Mike Your help is much appreciated! I knew about saving a copy before mergins. Unfortunately though, because I was only merging my husband into my tree I thought it would be a very simple thing so I didn't save a copy first. And it has been a week or so before I noticed. The sex entries are correct. My Big mistake, I think, was that instead of merging the husband tree with mine, I merged my tree to his (Doh!) I have since tried "working with record identifiers" exactly as you suggested - a big learning curve for me. The custom IDs are right but generating new record ids by copying the custom ID values has had no obvious effect and my husband remains the "root" of my tree. Hmm... Do you think I have to go back to a tree saved a week or so before the merge and "start again"?
