My only workaround is to select *unmarried couple *in the property box. I looked at the wish list and was surprised that a wish list item - *support for single sex / gender relationships *first posted in 2006 was last voted on in 2009. Surely I am not alone in being puzzled over why we cannot accurately record same sex relationships. Is the problem that the gedcom [Church of LDS] still does not recognise such relationships? * * ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Mon, 23 Jan 2012 00:04:06 -0000 From: "Beryl & Mike Tate" <post@tatewise.co.uk> Subject: Re: [FHU] Recording Same Sex Relationships / Civil Partnerships To: <family-historian-users@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <000901ccd962$86691dc0$933b5940$@co.uk> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Yes, if using FH V4 ensure that the Sex of both partners is the same. Then either use the 'Marriage' Event to represent Civil Partnership or create your own Custom 'Civil Partnership' Event. I am not clear how selecting *unmarried couple* provides a workaround. Regards, Mike Tate Thanks Mike and ColeValleyGirl. Yes I have ensured that both partners are of the same gender and I have V4. The couple are not in a civil partnership but when I produce an individual summary report there is reference to them being married and I cannot work out how to rectify this. I have created a partnership event on Mike's advice which shows up on the report but it still insists on calling the partner a 'spouse' and the couple in a marriage. Actually this is not an issue about single sex relationships but about how FH describes couples who are not married. Is there a way of producing reports that accurately record a partnership rather than a marriage? * * * * *James Pam*

    3. Narrative Reports are better, because if there is no 'Marriage' then it is not mentioned. You can improve the Summary Report a little by changing the 'Marriage' heading to 'Partnership' or whatever you like. Use the Report Options > Format tab > Heading > Marriage > Edit > Heading Text: Partnership > OK > OK Save this Report as a Custom Report Type for future use with unmarried couples. I cannot find a way of changing 'Spouse' though. My thesaurus defines Spouse as Husband / Wife / Partner. In this section the marriage/partnership 'Status' such as 'Unmarried Couple' is shown. Hope that helps.
