Ron, I think there are two issues here. It is my understanding that Diagrams, and saved Charts, are format dependent on your Printer setup. So unless you both have identical Printers and settings, the Diagrams may be presented slightly differently. File > Import/Export only applies to Custom items - Query, Fact Set, Text Scheme, etc, but NOT Standard ones. This is true even if you have edited the Standard ones. The workaround is to make a Custom copy of each customised Standard item. The commands are different for each type of item, but for Text Schemes you use the Clone button. It appears that we are but just to make sure I asked them to send me the text scheme from their system but when trying to instruct the other person as to how to do that we have hit a problem. Click File, Import/Export, Diagram Text Scheme and then in the next window that opens there are no text schemes listed, the box is empty. Any ideas please. Thanks Ron
Ron Mike is quite right that the layout of diagrams is in part dependent on your printer (as well as text scheme and other diagram settings, and even on what fonts you have installed). Even if you both have all the same fonts, different printers render different fonts differently, and this can affect layout. What you see on the screen with a diagram, is what you will get (and what looks best) when printed. Unless you and your friendly have identical printers (and printer drivers) there may be differences. And even very small, subtle differences get magnified at the tips of tree branches. The best and simplest solution would be to ask your friend to send you a PDF. But if you don't want to do that, and if he keeps his data in a project, you might do this: ask him to save the diagram in chart format and send you the entire project, including the chart file. By sending you a chart file you ensure that you will have all the options that he used. But before he saves his diagram in chart format he should select all boxes in the chart and disable auto-sizing (e.g. zoom back and click-and-drag to draw a stretchy box to 'lasso' all boxes and thereby select them. Then right-click on any box and untick 'Autosize Box' on the menu that appears). When you open the chart, because auto-sizing has been disabled, the boxes shouldn't have changed size or position. It will all be much easier in version 5. You will be able to open any chart with autosize disabled for all boxes, even if the chart wasn't saved like that.
