    3. I was hoping to live long enough to bring my family history into a believable state and FH has helped a fairly smooth collection of information - but I seem to have been given a set of square wheels when incorporating Ancestral Sources. My Great Grandfather married and they were blessed with five children. Unfortunately he was not the best at meeting the Census requirements in 1871 and 1881 and died shortly thereafter and the family split. I found the fifth member and entered her in her place only to find AS and FH has married ggfather twice to the same ggmother - the first time with four children and the second with one. Following the AS instructions for removal of the error does not function and whilst I reverted to a back-up on FH and corrected there, having saved and backed up again, the error has not gone away. The first back-up after I found the error was sent to a "Temporary Folder" and it doesn't seem all that friendly with the earlier back-up folders and is overwritten on the next saving. Please can someone help - I have been unable to find a history of others in this pickle. Peter

Peter it appears that what you needed to do was merge the 2 families to give one set of parents and 5 children. This is simply to do in FH and does not require you to use AS. Without knowing how you tried to fix the problem of 2 families it is difficult to suggest how you can correct your current file. Do you have a backup created prior to trying to correct the problem that you could restore from. If so you just need to restore from the backup and merge the 2 families. Go to Edit them Merge/Compare Records and select both family records. Hope this helps. Hilary

    3. Peter in Family Historian go to the View>Record Lists>Family Records Click ok if it pops up about it not normally being shown. Go down to your GGrandfather, and there should be two family records, select both of them using the shift key and then select edit>Merge records to match the two records and merge the two families into one. 3. AS is very good at keeping backups that allow changes it makes to be rolled back. Look in the ...\Ancestral Sources\Backups folder that is defined in its Tools > Options > General settings > Backup Folder. Also take care when entering AS data that you use existing Parents/Spouses/Siblings/Children listed in the right hand pane rather than adding new Individuals. You can always E-mail Nick Walker for assistance or post in the Ancestral Sources Forum on the FHUG website.
