I am a new user of Family Historian (2 days!!) so please forgive any naivety in my question – I am on a steep learning curve. I have been using a very old copy of the program Generations Family Tree for about 15 years. The program whilst very simple to use has its limitations and is no longer available to update. I have exported a gedcom of my large body of data from that old program and imported it more or less successfully to Family Historian. My problem is that the 1500 or so sources that I had documented in my old Generations program in great detail have very incompletely been transferred. Much of the valuable information has not been imported. For instance to give a very simple example, my old GRO BMD source records had the title, the place of registration, the year of Registration , the Quarter, the volume and the page number and occasionally a few other things such as Mothers maiden name , age at death, etc. In transferring to Family Historian, the only citations recorded are the title, the volume number and the page – all the rest are missing. I think this is probably because with the old program I could select from a long list of source field to use for each different type of source and I could even create new source fields when existing ones weren’t appropriate. There seem to be very few source fields in Family Historian ( or perhaps I haven’t found them?) and I assume that is why my information has had no where to go. Can someone please advise if somewhere in Family Historian there is a a range of source fields that can be chosen or if I can create my own source fields for each source type . At this stage I am finding the recording and even locating the sources very difficult and confusing. Any help would be appreciated. Martyn Queensland, Australia

The standard does not support the extra fields, but you can use Labelled Text to tag the items you are looking for using for example Qtr: 1 District: Ilminister in the Where in Source field or any other Note field. If you check the exception report for the import you should be able to see if all your extra fields have been brought in as UDF (undefined data fields) or dropped completely, if they are UDFs you will be able to see them using the All Tab on the Sources If they have been dropped as completely invalid it's sometimes possible to write a script (or use a text editor) to convert them as needed. -- Jane.
