    3. I simply use the Registration District Name followed by '[RD]' - so Alan's example (where I grew up as a kid, as it happens, well Great Cornard, just outside) would be 'Sudbury [RD]' whereas a certificated event would be at 'Sudbury, Suffolk, England' - together with the Quarter Date and the Index Reference. I also add the Individual to a 'To Do' List in FH for 'Certificates Required' with a Note detailing the Index details. Thus far I have not found the need to include any County name in RD entries, but no doubt those more experienced will be able to give examples of duplicate RD names that do require this additional qualification. If all the information I have is the registration district (e.g. because I've identified the right event in the index but haven't yet obtained the certificate) then I use the district as it is. The question was "Which County?". Most districts are in only one county so I use that. Blything and Wangford are both entirely in Suffolk so they become Blything, Suffolk, England Wangford, Suffolk, England The example I gave, Sudbury, covers places in Suffolk and Essex. However, the town of Sudbury is in Suffolk so that becomes Sudbury, Suffolk, England I hope that makes things clearer, but it's still just "my" way of doing things :-) Alan > -----Original Message----- > From: family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On > Behalf Of Julian Chilvers - CN > Sent: 23 February 2012 16:49 > To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [FHU] Which County? > > > What do you do for GRO registration districts that are not > named after towns > (e.g. Blything) or districts that do not include the town > they are "named > after" (e.g. Wangford). > > Julian > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Alan E. I decided to change because of the resulting duplication.

    3. John Like you I haven't found the need to include the county name in RD entries. I only include the GRO Reference if I haven't got the certificate. If I have the persons birth place (e.g. from census) that itself will tell me where the person was born. The GRO reference is there purely for evidence confirming the person. One can click the GRO reference name and that shows a list of places the area covers which would confirm the birth place shown on the census. If it doesn't then either the census details or the GRO reference is not for the right person. 3. Hi all I have a lot of duplicate place names. Typically I have Eastbourne, Sussex and Eastbourne Reg Dist. If I have a GRO reference first then I use Eastbourne Reg Dist for the place of birth. If I need to know where Eastbourne is I look in my Repository which will tell me it is in Sussex. Once I know the physical place where they were born i.e. Seaford, East Sussex then I replace the original Reg Dist with this one. I now have two bits of information, the GRO reference with the Reg Dist in my citation and the actual birth place in my Place.
