    3. I am a bit confused. You say you "grasped the full potential of the Split Tree Helper". Then say you used the "Strict GEDCOM file" option that only applies to "File > Export > GEDCOM File"? But that option does not adjust for custom tags as it only applies to same sex partnership tags. So what you have sent to Borders FHS, even though acceptable, may omit certain aspects of your database. I again suggest you use the "Export Gedcom File" Plugin. You can delete Projects via "File > Project Window > More Tasks > Delete Project" or if they are just Gedcom files then delete them using Windows File Explorer. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Split Tree Helper Mike Thanks for your help in this. I practiced several times on the "Sample Munro Project" until I had grasped the full potential of the Split Tree Helper. I now have umpteen sample project files all over the place in various states of usability! To be got rid of! I am told the "Strict GEDCOM file" which I have sent to the Borders FHS was acceptable to them. I omitted the media files because of the size. Thanks for your guidance and advice. Michael

Should be published shortly. The V5 book and Tutorials can be downloaded from the Calico Pie download archive or the FHUG Knowledge Base. The Split Tree Helper should NEVER be used on your master Project, but on a copy, because it permanently deletes records. However, the File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File is a much better option, as it uses the same method for selecting records, and does not jeopardise your master Project. But bear in mind that the GEDCOM File will still be the FH dialect with all its custom extensions that the Borders FHS may not recognise. So it may be necessary to use the Export Gedcom File Plugin on the resulting GEDCOM to convert to standard Gedcom 5.5. Also do you wish to include Media files or is it just the Gedcom File? 3. As has been said, there is an ongoing discussion on this "FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints" topic in the FHUG Forums. http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/ The hint details are held in the Cache folder within the Project for both FindMyPast and MyHeritage, but it uses a very cryptic format that cannot be easily edited. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Find My Past Record Matching I've been experimenting with this and find it useful. However I think there is a minor, but niggly, problem. When a suggestion is offered that isn't in the FMP collection to which you are subscribed, you can't seem to either accept or reject it. For example, a death is offered for America, now I know that my relative didn't die in America so I want to reject it. However, because I don't have a worldwide subscription I can't accept or reject it. Does anyone know where the list of suggestions and acceptance/rejection is kept? If it's maintained on the PC then I could presumable hand edit that file. Thanks David Simpson

    3. 1. OK 2. All the Diagram Options, including Text Schemes, can be applied to FH Charts. What makes you think they can't? 3. That is the purpose of Custom Diagram Types - to save customised tab settings. But why stop at Boxes, why not suggest schemes for every tab? 4. Text Schemes are saved in plain text format that permit editing with say the Windows Notepad editor. With a little experimentation you can work out how each line relates to each option in the FH dialogue. 5. The Apply button in the Edit Text Scheme dialogue does that already. 6. That would be useful and is related to the whole topic of formatting text throughout FH with tabs, bold, italics, etc, that has been pending for too many years. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- From: family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Paul via Sent: 02 April 2016 00:20 To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FHU] Help with diagrams 1. May I add to Mike's helpful suggestions with an observation and proposals for further program enhancement? 2. One of Family Historian's claims to fame is the facility to create *Text Schemes* (in the Text tab of Diagram Options) to be applied to Diagrams (btw, why not to Charts?). Once a text scheme has been created, it is easy to clone (save with a different name) then modify and re-save. This allows us to invent super-detailed diagrams and (for example) strip out features for a more compact presentation. 3. My first suggestion is to provide a similar "Boxes Schemes" facility, possibly an alternative way to help Sandra Collins. 4. A second suggestion is to provide a more user-friendly editing facility for Text Schemes themselves. At present the schemes are saved in some special data format I can't understand. In principle it should be possible to convert to a plain text format. This would permit editing with a text editor and greatly assist re-arranging, copying and pasting blocks of the scheme, and other "simple" changes that can easily go wrong at the moment. 5. Third suggestion: a Text Scheme preview window, using data from a selected person or family. This would reduce the delays involved in saving the text scheme, reviewing the effect of changes and returning (if needed) to the scheme editor. 6. Fourth suggestion concerns horizontal spacing: we have some control over vertical spacing (new lines, gap lines and font size) but nothing much horizontally. How about rulers to control zoning when subsequent tab characters are inserted? 3. Yes, simply create two Diagram Types or FH Charts. I suspect you have only been customising the Standard Diagram available from the toolbar icons or via View > Standard Diagram Types. With the Diagram open, customise the Boxes tab as required, then use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type and give it a memorable name. Thereafter, use View > Custom Diagram Types and choose that memorable name. You can save as many different Diagram Types as you like to preserve various custom settings. You can also use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Family Historian Chart and give it a name. That will not only save the custom settings but also the part of the family tree for your relatives. Thereafter, use View > Save Charts. Note that they are not frozen in time, and will still update when new data or boxes are added to the family tree branch on display. 3. The amount of free storage with SkyDrive/OneDrive has gone up & down over the years. Currently it is 15 GBytes plus another 15 GBytes if you opt into the Camera Roll bonus. Yes, subscribing to Office 365 is often an economic option with a 1 TByte bonus. See the FHUG Knowledge Base for full details: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=fhugdownloads:contents:microsoft_skydrive Upgrading to Windows 10 does often upset file permissions that can be difficult to fix, and explains documents opening in 'read only' mode. See the FHUG Knowledge Base for Windows 10 Upgrade tips: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:windows_10_upgrade_tips Usually, when you login to Windows 10, the Username is your Microsoft account Email address. That is also used to access Outlook Mail, the Microsoft Store, and OneDrive cloud store. So when you upgraded to Windows 10, what Microsoft account Username did you select? If it is not the same as the Microsoft OneDrive account used elsewhere then you will never get synch. If the OneDrive client is not running, there will be no icon in Notification Area, and thus no cloud store synch. Check the 'Show hidden icons' triangular button in the Notification Area that might reveal the OneDrive icon. Otherwise, type OneDrive into Search box on left, and click OneDrive above to start the client running. A Google search for 'How to start OneDrive in Windows 10' offers loads of advice. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Problems Saving Gedcom file Mike Thanks for your reply This is what I did. I set things up myself I started with Sky Drive. As you know this name was changed to One Drive. As you say it is a free account but only up to a limit 2Gb? When One Drive came into being I subscribed to 20GB costing me a fiver a month. When Office 365 came into use. I found that it was subject to a year fee. Previous Office versions did not have this. You just paid for the software. Later I learned that Office 365 included 1TB of One Drive. So I decided to have this for just under £60 a year. After all 12 x £5 comes to £60 so might as well have the office 365. Once I had this everything was great. I could see the same things on both my lap top and desk top in addition to my mobile. I had Wind 8.1 at the time Then Win 10 was released with free upgrades from 8.1. Whilst I do like Windows 10 it affected all my files. Both Word and Excel which opened with a new title and in 'read only' format. Have sorted some of these out but haven;t opened them all yet. I have quite a few thousand of these files. In addition to this what I see on my lap top is not what I see on my desktop. Here I am talking about new additions since I upgraded to Windows 10. I have tried to find if I had 2 versions of One Drive but can't find anything. The only One Drive cloud ikon I see is on my File Explorer. There is nothing on my desktop I will have to find time to chat to MS. It is good that they have an on line chat facility. Regards Victor

    3. Anyone can open a free Microsoft account. So it depends how your Windows 10 PC has been set up. Did you ask somebody else to set up the Windows 10 login account and thus its OneDrive account? Do you login to Windows 10 with an Email address style username and enter a password? As I said, click on the OneDrive cloud icon and it tells you the account it is using. Are those accounts the same via the desktop and laptop OneDrive cloud icon? You do not pay for Microsoft accounts as they are free, unless you are buying extra storage or Office 365. You can have as many Microsoft accounts as you like. They just need different Email addresses for their username. If you chat with MS I suspect they will ask you much the same questions as above to identify which accounts you are using. 3. Victor, are you sure you are using the same OneDrive account on Windows 10 as on the other devices. If you have created a new Microsoft account to login in Windows 10, then that account is used by OneDrive, and almost certainly differs from the other devices. Does the OneDrive client cloud icon appear in the Notification area bottom right? Right-click that icon and choose Settings > Account tab to check the OneDrive account name. Click 'Choose folders' and check the appropriated folders are ticked. I presume you have your FH Projects and photos within the OneDrive folder on Windows 10.
