    1. [FHU] Diagrams - font sizes and box colours
    2. I have prepared a large all relatives family tree diagram – it uses the maximum allowed length for a pdf file (approx 129 inches). Although the font size is 9pt I have had to scale down the diagram to 50% to fit within the desired length and consequently the size of the lettering is small. To make the direct ancestor line clearer I have put in two extra ancestor (maternal and paternal) trees on the diagram and would like to have them in a larger font for increased legibility. But I cannot see a way to do it. Maybe it is not possible. I marked the root person on the all relatives tree in a distinctive pink colour (it was a girl!) and found, to my surprise, that using the same root person in the ancestor trees did not give the same coloured box – it was the cream of a descendant. And although I was able to change the colour to the same pink as on the all relatives tree by using a marked box I am not sure why this happens. According to the Diagram Options Boxes for both Ancestor and for All Relative diagrams the colour of the root person is shown as pink. Grateful for any views/help. Joan

    3. Thanks to Nick and Mike for the advice on the instalation of FH on my Mac, I made a typing error on the quoted FH version, which is 4.1.2. I did a trial run connecting my XP laptop to the Mac by cable, the Mac recognised the XP laptop, and gave a code with a series of numbers which stated I should see this code on my XP laptop, I cannot see this code, any ideas what I may be doing wrong. 3. I presume FH v.4.2 was a slip of the keyboard, and you mean FH v.4.1.3. Anyway, you will need to install the FH full v.4.0 and then upgrade to FH v.4.1.3. Are you a new FH user, or are you migrating from an existing Windows PC ? Have a look at the FHUG > Knowledge Base > Family Historian Installation Guide, especially how to Move Family Historian Settings. See http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:index#installation_guide Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- From: family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Payne Sent: 17 November 2011 19:19 To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Subject: [FHU] Family Historian to Mac Having heard glowing reports of Mac computers on this user group, I have purchased a Mac Book Pro 10.72 Lion. 3. I installed XP with Parallels and experienced no problems at all. XP will behave exactly as it does on a PC and will continue to recieve Windows updates. Just follow the installation instructions and you'll be fine. You won't regret the Mac. -----Original Message----- From: family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Payne Sent: 17 November 2011 19:19 To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Subject: [FHU] Family Historian to Mac Having heard glowing reports of Mac computers on this user group, I have purchased a Mac Book Pro 10.72 Lion. 3. You need to edit the text scheme for the diagram. Right-click in the background of the diagram and select Diagram Options. In the Diagram Options box, select the Text tab. The particular text scheme you are using will be highlighted. Click Edit on the right hand side. In the Edit Text Scheme box, scroll down the right hand section to the Birth line. Click Edit in the lower right corner. This bring up the template for you to change. Click OK when you have changed it. At each stage you can click on the Help button in the current box for further guidance. 3. V4 would replace your current V2.3.1 on your machine. Your FH GEDCOM and media files would remain intact. V4 gives you the option of reorganising your files into V4 'Projects', bringing al your FH files into a common folder structure, which I'd strongly recommend (it makes backup and recover easier, for one thing). You would then be eligible for the V5 upgrade, which would change V4 to V5. You would no longer have V2.3.1 anywhere (other than on the now redundant installation discs). 3. I use the traditional Place field format, but add [GRO District] on the right to show it is a post-1837 Registration District. Similarly, for pre-1837 parishes, I use [Church Parish] on the right. This I supplement with the actual birth/death address in the Address field, which as you say, is often quite different from the Registration District. Remember it is easy to make global changes using the Tools > Work with Data > Places options. You won't be asked to copy media if into your project if you don't have one open - i.e. if you are editing a standalone GEDCOM file, rather than a project. Also, even if you do have a project open, and not a standalone GEDCOM file, you still won't be asked to copy the media file into your project folder if it's already there - i.e. if the media file you have selected is already located in the media area within the project folder. Do either of these apply? If it's a standalone GEDCOM file you're editing, the main title bar of the window will say "Family Historian Gedcom - " followed by the name of the file. If you have a project open it will say "Family Historian Project - " followed by the name of the project. Or at least it will if you have 4.1. Simon Orde List Administrator & Family Historian designer Thank you Simon. I think that that is the answer. I do have version 4.1 and have been altering the Gedcom file as it is saved on a USB flash drive which I use on two different computers so it is easier to just open the Gedcom file. Each time I open it from the project menu it seems to need a different file path. Unfortunately I'm not that hot on computers and soon get tied up on the logistics. -- Glen
