Very many thanks..................I have also just discovered that if I Copy the diagram when I am zoomed out and choose Current Size (or something similar) it pastes into a Word document (or MS Publisher in this case) mightily reduced. Fantastic! (I had already reduced box sizes etc etc) As an elderly genealogist (61 tomorrow and working on my ONS for 30+ years) but a newbie to Family Historian....................I think it is AMAZINGLY good and versatile. An enormous thank you all round for your help and support. Malcolm Yes, the data can be available in FH. The Auto-text census grid will appear in the Source Record Text From Source. This will include the Column data you entered, although it is a bit awkward to extract individual columns in FH. Use the Census template Editor and check the following. Set Country: UK and Year: 1911 then select one of the Census Columns for Completed years... or Total number of Children... The Recording option can be set to Append to census event local note. The Tools > Options > Census settings default to Include note titles. This allows the data to be extracted using the function =GetLabelledText(). I am not aware of any associated reports or queries. In order to support those, you will need to ensure the font you are using includes them. So something like Arial with Central European selected should do them. To switch off boxes, click on Options on the Diagram menu, and on the Boxes tab, click Presets and choose "No Box". To just show names, go to the Text tab within Diagram Options and choose "Name Only" or "Name Only (Compact)" and click Apply. The easiest way to have no boxes and just names is as follows. Once you have your Diagram open, use Diagram > Options and select the Boxes tab. At the bottom right click the Presets button and choose No Box. This will completely replace all the Box conditions leaving just Sex giving different colour fonts for Male and Female and the <Default> with <no box> selected. Ensure that the 'Save as default' option bottom left is NOT ticked and then click OK. If that is near to what you want then use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type and OK the warning. Give your custom diagram a name such as "No Boxes" and click OK. Thereafter, you can use View > Custom Diagrams and choose "No Boxes" to redisplay that style of Diagram. To adjust the size of the Diagram use Diagram > Options and on General tab adjust the Scaling top right and save as above. Presumably you will use Diagram > Save Diagram As > JPEG File (,jpg) (or one of the other image formats) to insert into your article. snip "One for the FHUG wish list, perhaps?" There are wish list items covering this : http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?searchstring=narrative%20report&wcwcref=9&byusrvote=include¤tpage=3&orderby=&orderseq=&wlwlref=470 http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?searchstring=narrative%20report&wcwcref=9&byusrvote=include¤tpage=2&orderby=&orderseq=&wlwlref=240 are two of them. I think there is at least one more which I can't find. I use the a variation of the Narrative Report to generate my web pages. I use a symbol {np} in my reports, sometimes as part of the fact sentence and sometimes for an individual alteration in the sentence in the Property box. I then use a free programme called Search and Replace to replace the {np} with <br><br>. This gives the desired line breaks but sometimes there isn't a capital letter to start the sentence. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~owenjones/des_narrative/ind56.html as an example page. NB the red text at the top of the page. This solution is only suitable for web pages. I don't think there is; I've tried inserting ascii 'crlf' characters (alt-13 alt-10) into a sentence template, but they just get translated, and printed, as question marks. One for the FHUG wish list, perhaps? Possibly the 'Add Code' drop-down list could be extended to include a few control characters like this, or something like [CR] - as in GenBox - could be supported. Stewart > I now need someone who has merged two products to help me understand how > you deal with media in the process. If you have the lateset version (4.1) Family Historian will give you the option to copy any linked multimedia into the current project folder - if you're merging into a project. For something as significant as merging one project into another, I would recommend having a practice run to give yourself a chance to familiarise yourself with the process. For example, you could just create a small test project with two or three people in it, and merge the GEDCOM file from the sample project into it. Strictly speaking you don't have to create a copy of both Projects, just the one you are merging into (referred to as the Current file in FH). The Project you are merging from (referred to as the New file in FH) should only ever be read from and not changed. I think the Merge only affects the GEDCOM file, so I suspect the media images will need a separate process. (Others will correct me if I am wrong). Using Tools Work with External File Links will identify those media that need to be copied. Am I able to do the following? Can I use the More Tasks in the Project Window to create a copy of both of the projects and then use these 2 new copies to merge together? If thing go wrong then I presume that my original 2 projects will still be unscathed. I hope that my understanding is accurate! Another thing I need to clarify is whether or not all the saved images in the respective media folders will be automatically included in the merge or is this a separate process? I recently merged 7 projects (mostly small). Four of them had media files. From memory(?) I completed the merge process for individuals, families, sources etc & then copied the four folders containing the media into this final merged project media folder. Then use 'Tools - work with external file links' to ensure all media links are restored. -----Original Message----- From: family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:family-historian-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Beryl & Mike Tate Sent: Thursday, 8 March 2012 7:07 AM To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FHU] Merging Two Projects I don't believe there is 'an option to transfer the media'. If you are merging the entire Project, then simply copy the entire Media folder to the merged Project's Media folder using Windows Explorer.
