Hi Simon,   My cousin and I share the family tree by emailing it back and fourth, currently we are both on the same version,  I know she purchased a more upto date version sometime ago but yet to install.  If we are not using the same version one being older than the other, and we then send the tree back and fourth via email.  Will all remain compatiable the tree is fairly large, but not so large that it cannot still be sent by email.   Cheryl

    1. Re: [FHU] Age Field In Burial Fact In V5
    2. Beryl & Mike Tate
    3. FH V5 has some new features that allow fields for each type of Fact to be enabled/disabled. It also adds validity checks that warn if a Fact Date is before Birth Date or after Death Date, etc, etc. The general wisdom is that the Burial Age is the same as Death Age and not needed. Similarly the Birth Age is greyed out because the only non-zero entry is 'Stillbirth'. If you need to change the settings, use Tools > Work with Fact Sets then select the Fact's Properties and change the options. 3. Burial is an "after death" event and by default does not show the age, to turn on the field so you can enter it, go to the Tools>Work With Fact Sets and select Burial and tick the age field. V5 introduces the ability to control the fields shown on facts and the concept of where events belong, eg Burial is a "Post Death" event. 3. "Map Life Events" is an early Plugin with fairly basic capabilities. It is accompanied by "Map Geo-code Maintenance" that allows mapping to be refined. However, "Map Life Facts" is a later improved Plugin, combining the two above, plus many more options to aid accurate mapping. Got past that to enter the licensing info & all running ok. I decided to have a look at the Map Life Events plugin which looked interesting but found that the map pointers were wildly out. I used an ancestor born in Newcastle on Tyne and Quick View Current Record. All events were in or close to Newcastle apart from one in Darlington. Of the five locations represented only Darlington and one close to Newcastle were mapped more or less correctly. Newcastle itself was way to the west towards Hexham. Is this a problem with the plugin or Google maps? Hi Laraine, As you already have V4 installed at the moment you will be able to install the 'Upgrade' version of V5 without having your V4 CD or V4 registration key. So in the short term there is no problem. But (as Mike said) if you ever need to re-install FH on a new computer or after a PC breakdown, you would need the V4 CD and registration key to install V4 again before you could install the V5 upgrade. > One other answer I would appreciate please..........the HELP tab on V4 > included access to an online version of the book "Getting the most from > Family Historian 4" which has been tremendously useful. This is a major upgrade with a lot of new features and enhancements. See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/features/whats-new-in-v5 for full details and pictures. Users of version 3 or earlier versions, who wish to upgrade, should buy the full product - either boxed or as a download. "Version 3" means any version where the first digit is a '3'. Users of version 4 who wish to upgrade can buy an upgrade product - either as a download or on CD. Or if you prefer to buy a full version, you can of course do that too. See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/buy-now for purchase/upgrade options. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the beta testers who tested version 5 for us. They did a fantastic job and version 5 has benefitted greatly as a result. If you don't know what "beta testers" are, they are real users who do pre-release product testing. I would also like to thank Jane Taubman who, as well as sharing with me the role of being an administrator on this list and running the Family Historian User Group website, has provided a huge amount of help with version 5 - as she did with previous versions. Sorry Mike. I am still unclear. It rather looks as if I will have to buy the whole thing again having bought V4 at the end of August 2011 - a very short time, it seemed, before the announcement of V5 appeared. I do realise I only have myself to blame for my carelessness. The last time I can definitely recall having it was on our motorhome where I conscientiously worked through the Getting Started Booklet. Having been a very early user of Pedigree (#0097) sticking with it for close on twenty years..............I am delighted with FH but have put off getting to grips with it entirely waiting for V5. One other answer I would appreciate please..........the HELP tab on V4 included access to an online version of the book "Getting the most from Family Historian 4" which has been tremendously useful. It appears that a similar book for V5 will cost £18.95. Have I read that correctly or is that just a hardback version? Very many thanks for your help and (possible) patience! 3. Downloaded the V5 upgrade & installed ok, though I was confused at first by the request for a security key. Ian Thirlwell
