Hi Caryl, OK, it is not obvious what the problem is, so here are some things to try. Reset the Family Historian Sample Project as follows. Use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project. Open this Project and try using Edit > Unlink From for various Individuals. If that also fails, then try installing FH V5.0.9 again. If it works OK, then it suggests something unusual about your Project. Does it fail on every Edit > Unlink From for anyone you choose? Does it fail in Focus Window if you right-click anyone and Unlink Record? Are there any convoluted relationships for the problem Unlink? 'Parallels' requires you to purchase a Retail Licensed copy of Windows. The existing copy on your PC probably won't work as it will usually be an OEM Licence that is only valid on that PC hardware. The ins and outs of how to install I can remember exactly as I bought mine a year ago, but it's pretty self explanatory from what I remember. I badly wanted to switch to a mac, and being able to continue using fh was very high on my list of priorities. No, but you can run the windows version in a windows emulator on a mac, like parallels, though this defeat the main object of using a mac (dumping windows!). Yasmin There is no Mac version, but I run FH under a programme called Crossover From: Yasmin <[email protected]> Reply-To: <[email protected]> Date: Monday, 12 May 2014 16:22 To: <[email protected]> Subject: [FHU] Apple Mac Pro I am thinking of buying and Apple Macbook Pro. Thank you Jane - that is it. However, I now have another problem - I have a number of notes along the lines of "on the 1901 census, his wife says she is married; on 1911 she says she is a widow but ..." which now also don't show up. Where do other people put that kind of information? In the options for the family group sheets report, you are supposed to be able to hide the cause of death. However, I have it set at "hide", but it is still appearing on the report. I'm on version 5.0.9 of FH & windows 7. I've had a look at the FHUG site, but don't see anything that relates to this. Any suggestions please? Thanks Stella Phillips
With an uncertain number of descendant it would be complicated and the text would be very small or the chart very large !!!! From: [email protected] Subject: [FHU] Descendant Fan Charts To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected].ca.mail.co mcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Is there a way to create a "descendant fan chart" in FH 5 instead of an "ancestor fan chart?" ------------------------------ A ancestor fan chart is easy because it only shows the direct ancestors and everyone has two parents so the chart expands in a predictable way. With a descendant fan chart consider one of my great grandfathers. He had 9 children who each had from 11 to zero children. Two of them had four children and 1 had none. My grandfather had 11 children who each had between 5 and 1 children who each had between 4 and zero children. An ordinary descendant chart looks very lopsided and dividing the space on a fan chart, which is restricted, would be difficult. DaveT In Sunny South Yorkshire
