    3. Victor I have tried to save the report so I can tweak it but if saved as an RTF file, the photos are repositioned as a line on their own instead of on the right against the text (actually above their text details) and if saved as a text files the photos are omitted. 1. Re: [FHU] Oddity in Descendant's Narrative Report
    2. Brian Horridge via
    3. Mike / Victor Thanks for your comments. I'm using these narrative reports as a simple way of telling contacts what I have found so far so I generally just print the report straight to a PDF file. I just want to produce something quickly and generally I do not want to spend the time to "pretty" them up. In this specific case, it's a branch of my family who have supplied me a lot of photos so I happened to notice this "oddity" as mostly I do not have photos (or if I do, the couple are married). Again, many thanks Brian On 09/12/2014 13:28, Beryl & Mike Tate via wrote: > Hi Brian, > There is no way to adjust the Report Options for that but you can alter the picture Caption itself. > Open the Property Box of the partner in question and in the Multimedia tab select and Edit the picture. > Tick the "Use Note as Caption" option lower right, then enter your desired caption in the unlabelled box to the left. > You must enter EXACTLY what caption you want to appear, including the name, date, and age. > > Regards, Mike Tate > > -----Original Message----- > Subject: [FHU] Oddity in Descendant's Narrative Report > > I am doing a "Descendants by Generation" narrative report for a cousin and I have just noticed that against head-shot photos for > several partners of descendants the report says "Spouse: {name}". 3. Brian You can save narrative report in a word document and edit that to suit the wording you require e.g. change spouse. I tend to edit these all the time as the narrative report itself is not well set out. Hopefully with v6 things will be better. 2. Beryl & Mike Tate via
    3. Hi Brian, There is no way to adjust the Report Options for that but you can alter the picture Caption itself. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Oddity in Descendant's Narrative Report I am doing a "Descendants by Generation" narrative report for a cousin and I have just noticed that against head-shot photos for several partners of descendants the report says "Spouse: {name}". The problem I have is that at least one of the couples are not married and I have actually set their status as "Never Married". I'm happy with "Spouse:" being there if they are married but is there a way of removing the "Spouse" against those not married. In the "Report - Options - Pictures" I have ticked to show the caption (because I want their name) but un-ticked all the other tick-boxes. Brian

    1. [FHU] *** Version 6 of Family Historian has been released
    2. Simon Orde via
    3. I'm very pleased to announce that version 6 of Family Historian has now been released. This is a major upgrade. There are many new features and many important enhancements to existing features. The overall look of the program has been much improved, and there have been numerous big usability enhancements. See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/features/whats-new-in-version-6 for full details and pictures. All versions of Family Historian are always fully backwardly compatible. So you can upgrade by simply buying the full version (boxed or as a download). But there are also lower-priced upgrade products for version 5 and version 4 users. See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/store for all purchase options. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the beta testers who tested version 6 for us. They did a brilliant job and the program is much the better for it. Thank you! I am doing a "Descendants by Generation" narrative report for a cousin and I have just noticed that against head-shot photos for several partners of descendants the report says "Spouse: {name}". The problem I have is that at least one of the couples are not married and I have actually set their status as "Never Married". I'm happy with "Spouse:" being there if they are married but is there a way of removing the "Spouse" against those not married. All Family Historian 6 installs (both upgrades and full) will detect and upgrade any copy of Family Historian already installed. If you have customised the standard diagram box settings or the standard text schemes it's worth saving then as custom diagram types and cloning the text schemes, before installing, but they are normally retained. Custom Queries are fine as are flags (not to be confused with icons set on flags). -- Jane. Jane Taubman | www.rjt.org.uk | www.taubman.org.uk |www.fhug.org.uk

    3. Hi Valerie (Sending this copy of the message to the list) Yes, there have been a few messages since 25 November. I hope you can get to the bottom of this problem. Meanwhile, to keep learning, can I recommend that you join the User Group at http://www.fhug.org.uk/ This is a very active and supportive user group with a large Knowledge Base and Forums for asking questions. It is by far the best way to learn about using FH, and will avoid the problem of unreliable email messages. I am sending this message to the list, but I will send another copy to you directly, marked as such, so you will know if you are missing ones from the list.
