    3. Andrew, the first question I have to ask is what backups do you have? Without backups, any PC or human malfunction could spell disaster!!!! Please double-check your Individual records to ensure your record is missing. To make it easier, in the Records window, sort the records into Surname order by clicking the 'Individual Records' column heading. Also you can use the search feature at the top. Perhaps also search for records with your Birth Date, just in case you have edited the record Name. Display in the Focus Window in turn: firstly your parents, and then your first wife (and second wife?) to ensure your record does not show up there. If it helps, you can set any one of them as File Root by right-clicking their box and choosing Make File Root. If your record turns up, then maybe it simply needs re-linking to some of your relations. If your record really is missing then you MUST have deleted it, and confirmed the associated popup warning message. Returning to my first question, have you a backup you can restore? If you can do so without losing any other recent edits, then simply restore it? Otherwise you will need to create a new project from that backup and use File > Split Tree Helper to delete all except your close family records. Then use File > Merge/Compare File to merge your close family records into you main project. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Lost Person Now something simpler! Although I have had family historian for quite a while now I am still struggling with it, mainly I think because my computer skills are pretty appalling. I have found that suddenly I myself have been excised from the family tree focus and records windows. However my first wife and children are still present in the records window. My sister is shown as the only child of my parents. A quick check has not shown any other major deletions. I I have no idea how this has happened because I have not done any work on myself or the immediate family for some time. The only other thing that I have noticed is that the tree now opens with my five times great-grandfather so I must have inadvertently made him the root person. I did not immediately worry about this but I suppose it may have happened at the time of the deletion. Formerly I was the root person. Any help would be most gratefully received. Andrew Brain.

    3. Please check the files & folders in ...\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\ Right-click, choose Properties, and open Security tab. 'Everyone', 'SYSTEM' and 'Administrators' should Allow 'Full control' etc, etc... 'CREATOR OWNER' should only Allow 'Special permissions'. 'Users' should Allow at little more than 'Read & execute' and 'Read'. Anything significantly different is probably the cause. First of all try re-installing FH V6.0.4 in Safe Mode using 'Run as administrator' as explained in: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:family_historian_installation_problems If that still does not work, how familiar are you with editing those folder/file permissions? Maybe post in the FHUG Forums so we can use screen-shots to help sort things out? Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Records Window I have just reinstalled it. The error is still there. Maybe I should download it again from the FH site? Regards Victor

    2. Beryl & Mike Tate via
    3. You can manage most such Notes via the Notes tab of the Individual Property Box. Click on each Note in the top pane, and its text is displayed in lower pane below. The Type of Note is shown to the right. Use Add Note button to add a local Note to Individual or Family record, or a Note Record to Individual record. To delete a local Note or a link to a Note Record use the X button. You are correct that unlinking a Note Record does not delete it. You must use the Family record Notes tab to add or unlink a Note Record for a Family Record. If you want to convert all such single link Note Records to local Notes then use the 'Clean Up Notes' Plugin. To delete all the zero link Note Records, first sort on the Links column by clicking its header. Open the Named List Pane, select all the zero Link records, and Add to a Named List. Then right-click on that Named List and choose Delete Listed Records. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Individual and Families NOTES I can give quick answers to two of your questions. To reach the spouse family property box from the spouses and children tab of individual in focus click the line under the individuals in focus which usually contains the marriage details. 3. My apologies, I have given you insufficient information, the problem with answering questions from memory rather than with FH open. The answers to your questions regarding notes are contained in the Type column of the Notes tab of the Property box. Notes attached to families have type "Marr. to <spousename>", the local ones within that set end after <spousename> the Note records are followed by "- Note Record (number of links)". You may have to scroll sideways to see the whole column. Notes attached to an individual are listed as Type Local or Note Record again with number of links in parentheses. 3. I think I figured out some things with the notes, but I still have a few questions. In the file I received, all the notes, both individual notes and families notes, are "links to note records". I know years ago this file had been uploaded to Family Historian from Family Tree Maker. I just read in the forum, that this is a known problem - that FTM saves notes as all note records. Since the transfer, all new notes were then also added as note records. Now there are over 200,000 notes in the file. Looking at the notes in the "notes tab", the number of links per note is either 1 or 0. There are many notes with 0 links. I quess this happened because if a note was deleted from an individual, the "note record" would still exist, but would no longer be connected to an individual. Am I correct that the "link to note records" can only be added to couples in the "families tab" and a family "link to note records" cannot be added from the individual record? Is there a way to quickly go from an individual record to the family record, without having to manually search for the family in the "families tab"? Is there a way for "links to note records" notes from families, to display in the individual property box??? Thank you for all your help! Susan In a message dated 10/18/2015 5:46:31 P.M.
