    3. Irene is going to post the Census Template in the FHUG Research Forum at: http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=12981 I then plan to add it to the FHUG AS Template Downloads. I would advise using the standard Census Event (I don't think AS can use anything else). Also I hope to add the 1939 Register to my 'Lookup Missing Census Facts' Plugin and that will assume the use of the Census Event. After all the 1939 Register is a form of census. 3. It was effectively a new install, I couldnt upgrade from windows 7 that I had running in parallels 8 as, while it worked fine in 8, as soon as i installed parallels 11, windows 7 stopped working because the activation key ran out and locked me out of windows completely when I tried to access it, so I have effectively set up a new virtual machine. I definitely have back ups of my tree, though not sure about all my custom settings, but this isnt too much of a problem for me if I have lost them, they are easily repaired, I just want my tree back..... :) > > On 04 November 2015 at 09:11 Mervyn Ashby via > <family-historian-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > Karen, > > If you've 'upgraded' to Windows 10 by installing into an existing virtual > machine to try to retain your Windows software installations, you may find > that some of the dependencies required by your programs haven't been carried > forward to the Windows 10 installation. > > Re-installing Family Historian 5 should put things right, but make sure > you have a 'backup' of any customised Family Historian settings you've made > just in case you have to reset them. > > Mervyn > > Sent from my iPad > > > On 4 Nov 2015, at 08:21, GARDNER KAREN via > > <family-historian-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > > Good morning, > > > > > > I have just updated both Parallels and Windows at home (had to install > > new > > versions, I couldnt upgrade the ones I had - too old for upgrades), and > > now when > > I try and open FH it fails, no error message or anything. 3. Karen, If you've 'upgraded' to Windows 10 by installing into an existing virtual machine to try to retain your Windows software installations, you may find that some of the dependencies required by your programs haven't been carried forward to the Windows 10 installation. Re-installing Family Historian 5 should put things right, but make sure you have a 'backup' of any customised Family Historian settings you've made just in case you have to reset them. 3. Janet, To change the number of generations, use the Report Options: With the 'Descendants by Generation' narrative report open, click the Options button on the right. On the main tab of the Report Options the first item is Generations, which by default is set to 3. Set this to whatever number you want, then click OK. The Descendants by Generation report is designed to give exactly that: all the known descendants of the starting person. You could, however, restrict the report to one side of the family by temporarily setting the 'Private' flag on individuals you don't want in the report and then using the Report Options > Privacy tab and tick 'Omit all references to individuals flagged as 'Private'. (Remember to remove the flag from them afterwards). 3. You can change the number of generations in a Custom Query. To get what I THINK you want, you will probably have to do it in a couple of steps, excluding the father in the first selection, then including him back at the end Add if descendant [max 1 generations] of [“Starting Person”] ;Note Exclude starting person and spouses here Exclude if %INDI.SEX% matches Female Add if descendant [max 5 generations] of anyone in the current result set. Add if =Relationship([“Starting Person”],,TEXT,1) matches ‘root’. -----Original Message----- From: Janet Sarsby via Sent: Monday, November 02, 2015 3:59 PM To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Subject: [FHU] Descendants by generation I am trying to produce the report descendants by generation but can only get three generations. 3. Janet You don't say at what point you have placed the name of the person to show the report. If you put the point at say 5 x great grandfather then the report will give you all the descendants from that point. The list seems to have sailed into stormy waters in the last few days. We have had a spate of garbage emails with dodgy links that you shouldn't click on (the "Fw: new message" ones). And now we have had another problem which may be a side-effect of the first (not sure yet): a large number of users have been automatically unsubscribed by RootsWeb (the people who manage this Mailing List). We are investigating why this has happened and the quickest way to rectify it. So please bear with us. Unfortunately of course anyone who has been unsubscribed (unless they immediately re-subscribed) will not get this message. However, if you know anyone who is wondering what is happening, do pass this information on to them. As I say, we are working on it, and hope to re-subscribe everyone who was automatically unsubscribed in this way. For future reference, if you do get unsubscribed unexpectedly and you did not want to unsubscribe, please just re-subscribe. This automatic unsubcribing probably has happened because your email provider has blocked messages from Rootsweb. If so, the problem is likely to correct itself, but it may take a day or two. If you continue to be unsubscribed automatically, please just wait a day or so and then try again. Sorry about the inconvenience. 3. I think the system has changed. I can't recall what is used to be but now when you are on the facts tab and highlighted the census you should see another box beside it listing the source. In the middle are some ikons with the end being a blue arrow. Prompt that arrow it will move the box to a source box with four tabs. Prompt the media tab that will reveal the census image Hope it works this way with you Victor On 31/10/2015 9:39 PM, Dennis Hawkins via wrote: > I use Ancestral Sources to put Censuses on to FH. 3. Hello everyone again. Just to be on the safe side I enclose a repeat of my message from Tuesday below (in case anyone missed it): You may have noticed that a number of garbage messages entitled "Fw: new message" have made it onto the list. Please delete them and do NOT click on the links in any of them. Any email sent to the list which requires you to click on a link to read the message will be garbage as FHU Mailing List emails do not work like that. Clicking on links in any emails you do not recognise is always a bad idea and could be harmful. We hope that Rootsweb may take action shortly to help us filter out these garbage emails. Meanwhile, please just be cautious. If an email looks odd, and doesn't read like a genuine post from a Family Historian user, please just ignore it and delete it. Thank you.
