    1. [FHU] Facts - FastAdd list

    3. Hi Mike Thanks for that thought. I have considered it, and checked that I can easily change the 200+ that I have already done. I'll ponder the merits of it during the day. The major plus that I can see is that when exporting to another system, CENS is a standard GEDCOM tag and would provide less problems that using a custom tag. Methinks I might have just talked myself into an extra 5 minutes work J Again, thanks for your input. In all but name the '1939 Register' was a Census based on the planned '1941 Census' according to the TNA. Ancestral Sources supports a '1939 Register Template' but creates standard Census Events. Lookup Missing Census Facts Plugin relies on 1939 Census Events to inhibit FindMyPast searches for the 1939 Register. If you want the Census Event to say Register in narrative sentences there is a fix on the FHUG Forum: http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32 <http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12986> &t=12986 Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Facts - FastAdd list Does anyone know if it is possible to customise the 'FastAdd' list attached to facts? As I'm putting a lot of 1939 National Register entries on, as their own fact type, it would be handy to add it to the list. Many thanks Dave

    3. Dave, Go to Tools > Fact Types... Then double click on the 1939 National Register fact type. In the lower right corner just above the Help button is a check box called Fact-Add Menu. Check this box and click on OK. That will add it to the FastAdd menu. 3. Brian, did you follow all the advice in: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:work_with_record_identifiers especially regarding the "Find Duplicate Custom ID's" Plugin to ensure all your new Custom Id are unique. You could also use the Records Window > Sources tab with a Custom Id column and sort on that column to check for missing or duplicate values. If inadvertently any of your edited Custom Id duplicate another Custom Id, or the Custom Id field is blank, then "Work with Record Identifiers" will be unreliable. I suggest you experiment with the "File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File" technique and create a New Project. Did you see my follow up corrections? The process is quite quick and that new Project can be easily deleted via "File > Project Window > More Tasks". Make a note of the procedure for future reference. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Source Record Numbers Mike Thanks for the prompt reply. I used the Tools - Work with Record Identifiers and first copied my old numbers into the custom ID, changed the ones I wanted and then copied them back. However, at first it did not seem to work - I got it working eventually by manually adding a Custom ID field to a couple and then the "Tools" routine created Custom IDs on all the others (which initially did not have them.) I've no immediate need to start a new project but I'll try to remember your advice when I do. 3. Brian, one thing I forgot to mention regarding 3) when exporting Source records. You must NOT Exclude any Repository records nor Multimedia Records that may be linked to the Source records. Also untick Unconnected Records and do NOT select any Individual Records. After creating the New Project, any unlinked Multimedia must be deleted. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Source Record Numbers Hi Brian, this is a recurring question. One option you might like to consider is to forget about Record Id and use Custom Id instead. You have complete editorial control over Custom Id so you can always manually synchronise across Projects. With a little customisation [Custom Id] can replace [Record Id] in virtually every screen display, Diagram, Report, etc. 1) Yes, "Tools > Record Identifiers" offers solutions, and Citations are automatically synchronised. 2) There is no way to define the new Record Id, but again "Tools > Record Identifiers" offers solutions. 3) Use "File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File" and Exclude all except "Source records". 3. You could try using the Diagram > Options and on the General tab set Orientation to Left-Right. That way the boxes tend to use less space and on a landscape page reads better. You can also still use Lorna's 'Box & Bar' technique if necessary. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] A tricky Descendant Diagram I am using Family Historian V6.0.4 and Windows 7 and I am trying to find a way of fitting a quart into a pint pot. I have to produce a two-generation Descendant Diagram showing a couple and their 18 children plus their spouses. The problem is that I need to be able to print the entire Diagram onto a single sheet measuring 24cm by 17cm landscape and the font needs to be 10pt to conform to a particular style scheme. The only way that I think this might be achieved would be to effectively "word wrap" the second generation to snake it down the page. Marion Woolgar Bognor Regis, West Sussex

    3. Yes, any sources with zero citations can be deleted. First, in the Records window (Sources tab) sort them by holding down the Alt key while clicking on the Citations column heading. This will bring all the sources with zero citations to the top of the list. Then select all those sources by clicking on the first, then holding the shift key and clicking on the last. Then use Edit > Add to Named List, and create a new list. Then in the Named List Pane right-click on the list and select Delete Listed Records. 3. You can't do a "word wrap" but you could change the shape of the diagram by using the Movement Control Box (Click the second icon from the right in the Diagram toolbar). Select the 'Box and Bar' move, and then click-and-hold the mouse on alternating children to drag them, with their spouses, downwards until the siblings each side of them have space to move sideways into the gap. You should be able to end up with 9 of the 18 children placed at a lower level. The result will be a digram that is deeper but not as wide as the original. I hope that makes sense - it's easier to do than to describe!
