    3. Brian, excellent. May I advise you join the FHUG http://www.fhug.org.uk/ where membership is free. There are Forums, free Downloads, and a Knowledge Base of advice with video tutorials. The downloads include the free companion program Ancestral Sources for data capture. The advice includes how to install FH and create an archive in case it needs to be re-installed. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] My Registration Success at last!!! 3. Jacqueline, I strongly advise that you join the FHUG http://www.fhug.org.uk/ and ask your question in the "Importing and Exporting" Forum. Membership is free and the Knowledge Base has advice on migrating from Ancestry/FTM to FH, plus much more. You can transfer using an Ancestry GEDCOM but it has no media document images. FTM synchronises with Ancestry and downloads the media document images. Then the FTM GEDCOM includes the links to transfer the media images. However, both use a non-standard dialect of GEDCOM that will need details adjusting within FH using various Tools and Plugins. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Ancestry Tree to FH Dear 2 person band called Beryl and Mike, Please tell this new to FH, Windows 10 and having a tree on Ancestry at last (because of dna testing) after years of shunning, grandma whether 1. I can take a GEDCOM from my Ancestry Tree and put it in FH? 2. If I can, will the sources included in the tree show on the tree in FH? If you say yes to 1, or preferably both, I shall snaffled Grandson no 1 off train when he gets back from Sheffield at end of term to do it for me! I want to look for all 1881 census entries in Ancestry tree to enter in Lost Cousins and Ancestry support tells me that there is not a way to search for those in my tree on Ancestry. Lost Cousin’s excellent Tree Analyser can do it from my tree on FH. Thank you. Jacqueline

    3. Family Historian use GEDCOM so the answer to your first question is yes. The sources which I assume you mean as images on Ancestry will not download with a Gedcom file but can be downloaded individually to attach to your tree in Family Historian. 3. Could the email have been caught in your SPAM filter? You should definitely receive an email with both the download link and your personal registration key. If you contact support@family-historian.co.uk telling them when you made the purchase and giving your email address they should be able to send it again. They are generally very helpful, however you may not receive a reply out of office hours. Lorna On 15/12/2015 20:50, Brian Kemmett via wrote: > Where can I find my activation code? 1. Re: [FHU] Text Scheme Separator Lines
    2. Beryl & Mike Tate via
    3. Hi Brian, FYI: "Justified" only has any effect in FH (or Word-processors) when the text is more than one line long and contains space characters between other text. Then the spaces are expanded such that the text fills the lines. But if the text is less than a line long it will always be left-aligned. There are two options I can think of to distinguish Census Events from the BMD Events. (1) Make the line of hyphens short enough to fit on one line even in a narrow box and use Alignment: Centred. (2) Use the Font change option to present Census Events in a different colour, etc. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Text Scheme Separator Lines On some of my Text schemes for diagrams, I have put in a line of hyphens so that they can act as a visible separator between different types of information (ie between the basic BMD fields and any Census data. I've used a nominal number of hyphens in the "Template" box that provides an obvious separation but it means that for individuals with minimal information, the box is wider than it need to be (and on others the line does not reach both sides). Is it possible to get such a line to automatically fill the width of the diagram box dependent on the width of other text lines (an option akin to the "Vertical Gap" option) ?? I've played with a few of the tick-options but cannot get it to do what I want. I thought the "Justified" option might do it (as it would on a normal word-processor) but it that does not seem to have any effect on any of the fields (left-, centre- and right-align work OK but not justified) I'm using FH Ver 5.0.11 Many thanks Brian

    1. Re: [FHU] Dual Project Data
    2. Beryl & Mike Tate via
    3. Hi Alan Since you have a backup of Project 2, then restore it to get back where you started. I assume the common family records are linked into other records in both Projects. If so, then the records in Project 1 don't have those links to records in Project 2, and thus any simply copy won't work. Also I would be amazed if the records in Project 1 have the same Record Id as their counterparts in Project 2, so copy won't work. It is those things that File > Merge/Compare File resolves. BTW: It is to avoid the complexities you have, that most users prefer just a single Project. The only rational way to migrate the data without re-keying is to use File > Merge/Compare File. I cannot imagine what you did within Merge/Compare File that would delete records completely. Do study the associated Help pages, and the FHUG Knowledge Base advice: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:merge_compare_files A common mistake is to only merge Individual records and forget about Family records, etc, on the other tabs. It may be better to use the FHUG Forum for this kind of activity, where screenshots can be attached to postings to sort out where you are going wrong. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [FHU] Dual Project Data Hi Mike I am at a loss now. I added information to the individuals records in the Project but didn't change any relationships. I tried your suggestion but something went wrong and I deleted the records of the whole common family in the second Project. Fortunately I took your advice with backups!! I now have Project 1 with common family data and relationships and records un-usual to Project 2 and Project 2 with all records unusual to Project 1 without common records. Is there a way to copy selected records from Project 1 to records in project 2? Otherwise I think I will have to re-enter all the data again in Project 2.
