I'm not a user of 'apps' in any shape or form, so sorry if this is a dumb question: what would one expect an FH app to do? In my simple world, FH is a PC-based editor for PC-based data files. Happily, those files are held in an industry-standard format, so /any/ GEDCOM editor app should (theoretically, and if there are any) work, provided it has a local copy of your data, or can see the data on your PC over the internet. Or have I missed the point? -- Cheers, Roger

    2. Yasmin Gibbins
    3. Good Evening, I want to print a very basic family group sheet showing Birth, Baptism, Death and Census information. I have edited the list and included the events I want. They all show in the correct order except for the 1911 census which shows at the very end of the list under the death. All the other events run in date order. I have tried deleting the events via the options and then the contents tab and reinstating them but this does not work. The 1911 census still shows as the very last entry. Can anyone help please. Thanks Yasmin

    3. David, You have to transfer the settings as well. On the FHUG website (www.fhug.org.uk) you'll find a 'How To' link. That has an item on 'How to move Family Historian Settings'. Link here: <http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:move_settings> http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:move_settings I've just done it, and it worked fine. 2. Karen Gardner
    3. As part of my text scheme I have 2 relationship lines due to some interfamily marriages back in my tree, some people are linked to me in more than one way. All the people that were already in my tree at the time of applying the new 'rule' are correct - if only linked in 1 way, only have 1 relationship line etc. However, when adding new people to my tree, if there is only 1 link, it will include the relationship line twice and just duplicate the text. Do I need to have an 'IF' ruling in the 2nd text line to make it work correctly? And if so, can anyone help me out? This is what I currently have: =Relationship(FileRoot(),%INDI%,TEXT,2) Thank you Karen

    3. Thank you to Jane and Mike for clearing my head. I hadn't thought about the link to the Record ID as for the most part I do not work with them and so I hide them from my view. I shall now remenber to take note of them in times of confusion!  I hadn't found the Record Links from the View menu because I had stopped at Queries and tried to use that. After checking the links as you instructed I then merged the two Sources with no mishap!  There is so much to discover in Family Historian I think its only through these personal dilemmas that some of us progress - otherwise we would never even start building our trees! Renewed thanks, and best wishes Pauline --- On Tue, 6/9/11, Beryl & Mike Tate <post@tatewise.co.uk> wrote: From: Beryl & Mike Tate <post@tatewise.co.uk> Subject: Re: [FHU] Source records with same title To: family-historian-users@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, 6 September, 2011, 13:30 FH allows duplicate titles because its unique record key is the Record ID. (I created the first one when I first started using the program about 3 years ago and now am doing some tidying up of earlier entries). I thought a box would appear telling me that I already had a source of that name did I want to add to the existing source. Instead I discovered that it had created a duplicate.   I am muddled now because I do not know which individuals are linked to which of the two same titled sources.  Surely there must be a built in way of FH4 guarding against creating duplicate titles?  Or provide a way of rectifying the error?  How do I find out which individuals are linked to a source? I tried running a query but it didn't show any results (though that is likely to be my inexperience in running queries). Can someone put me straight on this, please?  The 'Help' section does not mention such stupidity!.    Many thanks Pauline

    3. <<snipped>> perhaps FH should be able to show the pdf file in the media window like it does for jpeg files? <<snipped>> I'm not wholly sure but I am guessing that for .JPEGs etc, it actually has the code in FH (albeit licensed from others) to show the image. To show a .PDF directly, that would mean (if my guess is right) that Simon would either have to write code to show a .PDF in the media window or have to licence someone else's code to do it. In both cases, the code would end up as part of the FH software. Given how often Acrobat Reader is updated for security reasons, I'm not sure I'd like the idea of having that code - or its equivalent - inside FH. Moreover, if you think about what it would look like, it wouldn't actually be a simple interface - with a .JPEG, you just show the image. With a .PDF you'd need to have buttons to page through the file, etc. So my gut feeling is that it'd be one of these good ideas that turn into head in hands jobs after a while. I could be wrong of course........ Adrian
