Stuart, If you are using FH V4 Projects, with all the photos in the Project Media folder, then backup the entire Family Historian Projects folder. This is one of the many benefits of using Projects because it makes backup easier. Just backing up the GEDCOM .ged file does not include linked media files such as photos. If you are using FH V3 style standalone GEDCOM then you must backup the folders where your photos are stored as well as the .ged file. Some users utilise Internet cloud on-line synch/backup tools such as Dropbox. You may not be aware of the Family Historian User Group (FHUG) at http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi It is a free voluntary FH User Group - just register free under the Login section. Assuming you are using V4.1.3, copy the whole project folder, using Copy Project option on the More Tasks menu on the Project window. You can use the Merge Compare Records to combine the two Family records and match the Individuals off of the Family as well. Before embarking on the use of the Merge option, I would recommend working through the examples in Chapter 15 of the Book (on the help menu). To Jane's reply I would add the suggestion to add an unknown father and hang children off that relationship, rather than just adding the children directly to the Mother. After all, there must have been one, however transient. If and when you find the details, you simply update the Unknown individual with the appropriate details. It's also worth browsing or searching the FH Mailing List Archive; these subjects have invariably been discussed in the past. Thank you very much indeed to Jane. That is sorted! A second query..........please.......... Bearing in mind that I have used Gedcom to import a tree I have been working on for over 20 years, I am uncovering errors made a long time ago! I have a family group that I have entered twice at some point in the past and so I have duplicate people. Is there any way to deal with this efficiently (or not efficiently, in my case) Laraine Hake www.alabaster.org.uk -------------------------------------------------- From: "Jane Taubman" <janetaubman@gmail.com> Sent: Monday, October 10, 2011 7:49 AM To: <family-historian-users@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [FHU] help please for a very new user > First unlink the husband from the family. > > On the Focus window for the Woman, right click on the husband and select > unlink. > > Then on the property box for the Woman, select the blank tab above the > children and add the existing record for the husband record there. > > On 10 October 2011 07:31, Laraine Hake <laraine10@btinternet.com> wrote: > >> For example: this morning I have entered a new spouse to a woman who >> already had children. First unlink the husband from the family. On the Focus window for the Woman, right click on the husband and select unlink. Then on the property box for the Woman, select the blank tab above the children and add the existing record for the husband record there. Please look at the FHUG Knowledge Base on how to Move Family Historian Settings at http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:move_settings Custom Queries are in the Family Historian Program Data Folder which varies in location according to operating system. On XP it is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ and in Windows 7 at C:\ProgramData\ Within that folder Custom Queries are in Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Custom\ When you say Flags do you mean Icons in Diagrams, because Individual Flags should be in your GEDCOM data file. Icon image files can be anywhere, but if you check the Diagram Boxes Features and look at the Icon setting it should say where they were. All this is explained in much more detail at the web link above.
