    3. Hi I'm new to this list having just converted to Family Historian. I am having trouble with producing a chart. I enter data and apparently produce a Diagram. After entering a certain amount of data the diagram breaks into sections on coloured arrows. I think I have to save the diagram before I can produce a chart. Could someone please explain how to do this and why I can't get a chart. Anyn help gratefully received Cheers Alan

    3. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'shutter' coming down over your citations. Do you mean the whole source pane disappears from the Property Box? If so, you can get it back by clicking on the yellow scroll icon at the top of the Property Box. Do you mean the source pane has nothing in it? Don't forget you have to select an event/fact from the fact tab or the main tab of the property box first, then the source for that fact will show in the source pane. (And make sure you select the right fact before entering a source citation, otherwise you will have sources linked to the wrong facts!) Do you mean the source pane is squashed up so that you can't see any or all of the sources? If so, click and drag on the line of grey dots above the source pane (assuming you are displaying the source pane at the bottom of the property box) to adjust the relative sizes of the different sections of the property box. I hope this helps. 3. Adrian, That's fine if you have a definite birth date. But if someone was born before statutory registration and you can't find a baptism (or you think they may not have been an infant when baptised) you have to build up a date 'range' for their birth based on ages recorded in other documents. These are not likely to be fully compatible with each other. I find that dispalying the age RECORDED at each event in the property box makes it easy to see where the estimated birth date range came from. And you can see at a glance if a recorded age is incompatible with your estimated birth date range because it will show up with an exclamation mark. I always regard what goes into facts as being my conclusion about the fact and if I know that someone's knocked 3y off their age at marriage, why would I want to put the erroneous age in? I'd rather put a note in that said "X knocked 3y off her age rather than be seen to marry a much younger man." Adrian B

    3. This is because the Gedcom specification only recognises age in years, months, days, (or above/below an age in years, months, days), or Stillborn, Infant or Child. If FH permitted age in weeks it would be departing from the Gedcom standard. Where an age is found recorded in weeks the actual age is unlikely to have been an exact multiple of 7 days, so I think the best course is to enter the age as 'younger than' or 'older than' an age in months, and put an explanation in the note field. BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; } BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; } Hello FH, Anothr no doubt silly query from me but I can't find the solution in the FH Book; a shutter comes down automatically over some of my citations as I enter them; I didn't knowingly set this up and I don't know how to reverse it but it is proving a problem as I am checking a set of 900 + entries and therefore can't remember whether or not I entered the correct citation in those Citation Boxes where I can't see the content. Help! My heart soars at the prospect of an Indexing option in FH5; at the moment in order to make a "book" out of each Outline and Narrative Report I print out, I first make a List of all the names in that particular branch of the family, print this out twice and then enter by hand against each name the relationship to me, the FH Reference, and the page number (which of course differs in each case between the Outline Report and the Narrative Report); in addition, as soon as any alteration or additions to the content are made to these entries in FH, then the corresponding Index is immediately out of date and the page numbers and references don't then always respond to my Indexes. It will be marvellous if the Index option has an automatic updating function. Congrats in advance if it does. Regards, Val

    3. The settings for added trees are shared with the original tree so you won't be able to use a different font. As far as I can see only the root box on the main diagram is coloured based on the root setting, so you will need to colour the box using a flag or expression, to get the duplcate boxes coloured as well. If you really need the other trees on the same diagram you could save them to picture files (png perhaps) and add them back in as pictures. 3. Robert, Checking further I have one correction to what I wrote. Both research and event note entries from Genbox are found in the Notes text box of a Fact in Family Historian from my GEDCOM. It is the Notes tab for an individual (in Genbox) that displays in the Notes tab for an individual in Family Historian. If you are finding all your notes, both events and individual, from Genbox running together you might check how you are selecting output from Genbox for your GEDCOM. Each of the various tabs in the GEDCOM output have options. Best, Denise L.
