    3. Thanks Jane. I think I am letting FH copy the files into a media folder, I am just pressing the option that lets me choose which folder..... I will give the Tools>Work With External file links a try. To sort out the broken ones you will need to use the Tools>Work With External file links, which will show you the broken links and where family historian is looking for them. 3. As a new user of FH, I am having a wonderful time adding photographs. I am copying each one to the file within FH However...........this morning, I have some photographs not showing. There is an Error message "Unable to load objects. Error on file open" I can recognise that each of these photographs were stored within the same folder within FH - it is possible that I had not labelled it correctly.........thinking back to yesterday, I could have deleted an unlabelled "New Folder" not realising it was in use but that I had not labelled it . My question is: How do I access and look at the structure of the media files and folders other than when I am adding new media and it gives me the choice of where to save it. I have no doubt it is fairly obvious............except to me right now! Many thanks Laraine Hake

    3. That is default behaviour when you create a project you can turn it off when you create a project from a gedcom, but personally I prefer the ease of portability that keeping media with in the project folder brings. The \Media\ folder is part of the FH project you created when you imported your Genbox GEDCOM. The \Media\ folder is where FH moves a copy of the media listed in your GEDCOM. You will probably find that FH project folder within a \FamilyHistorian\ folder in your \My Documents\ folder. Best, Denise L. 3. I suspect the GENBOX implementation for media is different to the one FH uses. In your file what do you have in the 0 @M21@ section of your file. 3. Crashes this way do tend to happen when you are saving Ancestral Sources and try to open FH at the same time. It also happens when saving FH and opening AS. 3. Hi Bob I have just converted to F H from Genbox. I had a problem with Gedcom in that after transfer to F H there were extra, blank, boxes attached to married couples. Usually the female. Not dramatic - easily removed. Everything else, including media, transferred ok. I understand the Gedcom Spec is for guidance and not a mandatory format. Hence there can be a "mix & match" approach to it's use. A "mix" export and a "match" inport gives problems. There does seem to be quite a learning curve with FH but I like the charting presentation - if I can get consistant results - still struggling there. 3. I wonder if you are using the "Everyone" Diagram and some Individual boxes for Individuals that are replicated in different trees are linked by curved coloured ribbons. There are other types of Diagram (Ancestor, Descendant, Ancestor & Descendant, All Relatives) that include different amounts of data. To save the Diagram as an image file use menu option Diagram > Save Diagram As... and choose from the options. PDF File (.pdf) is very popular. To save as a Family Historian Chart use menu option Diagram > Save Diagram. This allows you to use View > Saved Charts and retrieve the Chart Diagram at a later date with all the layout options retained, but any additional Individuals in your database inserted. 2. Denise L. Moss-Fritch
    3. Jane, Yes, the @Mxxx@, where xxx is a number, apparently identifies individual media files. I ran a brief test by removing the @Mxxx@ after the OBJE tag from a few hundred tags in my GEDCOM. That left the FORM JPG tag and the FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\<name>.jpg tags. When I imported the resulting GEDCOM into a new FH project, FH changed the File tag location to media\<name>.jpg, so instead of linking to a file, FH made a copy of the media file and added that copy to the media folder for the project. Not what I had expected, but is workable. However, I know Simon is working on a direct import for version 5 that will handle Genbox files. I may spend the next couple of months learning FH and see what Simon's direct import will do for my Genbox file instead of spending more time with the Genbox exported GEDCOM file. Best, Denise L. 3. Thanks Jane. Where you write locally linked files would be in the format: 2 OBJE 3 FORM JPG 3 FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\Eberwhite Elementary School.jpg I am seeing the following in the exported GEDCOM file: 2 OBJE @M21@ 3 FORM JPG 3 FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\Eberwhite Elementary School.jpg The difference seems to be the @M21@ in the 2 OBJE line of the Genbox exported GEDCOM. I believe I will try an individual search and replace for the @M21@ string and try importing the resulting GEDCOM. Again, thanks for your assistance. Best, Denise L. In your file what do you have in the 0 @M21@ section of your file. 1. [FHU] Media not importing to FH
    2. Denise L. Moss-Fritch
    3. Good Day, When creating a new FH project from a Genbox created GEDCOM my media files were excluded during the import. I find the following in the exclusion log: l.303 - INFO ONLY: Loaded uncategorised data (non-GEDCOM): "3 FORM JPG" l.304 - INFO ONLY: Loaded uncategorised data (non-GEDCOM): "3 FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\Eberwhite Elementary School 2.jpg" The original GEDCOM file contained the following information associated with the above entry: 1 EVEN 2 TYPE Elementary School 2 DATE AUG 1952 AND JUN 1955 2 PLAC Eberwhite Elementary School, 800 Soule Blvd., Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan, United States 2 _FORWARD [P] attended school [L] [D] 2 OBJE @M21@ 3 FORM JPG 3 FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\Eberwhite Elementary School.jpg 2 OBJE @M22@ 3 FORM JPG 3 FILE C:\Genealogy\Locations\Eberwhite Elementary School 2.jpg 3 _PRIM Y Since Alan reports his media files imported from his Genbox created GEDCOM file, what is different with my GEDCOM file that FH would exclude the media? And, how might I fix the GEDCOM file so the media files import and FH creates a Media folder for the project? Thanks. Best, Denise L. Moss-Fritch
