    3. Paddy, Unfortunately, the Project Window, like most FH windows, does not remember its size from session to session. This is a recurring theme in the Wish List on the FHUG website http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi. If you register there for free you can vote on Wish List entries such as: Ref: 58 "Columns to resize to minimum width required to show all text on double left click" Ref:101 "Remember Column Layouts Last Used for File" Ref:106 "Work With Data Windows to remember size and location" Ref 210 "Select Record Window to remember size and position" Ref:359 "Property dialog mode to be remembered" Ref:424 "Field to stay in focus on app switch" Ref:433 "Multimedia Records Window Column Width" It is hoped that FH V5 might make some improvements in this respect. 3. Thanks for this - I did it too. Whilst on the subject of Christenings/ Baptisms, I used to use Christenings but changed to Baptism fairly early on so I also summoned up my courage and downloaded GedPad and did the change 1 CHR to 1 BAPM thing. The whole job accomplished in minutes. I now have all my Baptisms (and Burials too) in the Property boxes, hooray! 3. You can enter a christening event for an individual without customizing the property box. Just go to the Fact tab, click on 'Add Fact' and select Christening from the list which appears. But if you use the christening event a lot and want the field to appear on the main tab, do as Ian said in his message: click the menu icon in the toolbar at the top of the property box and select 'Customize'. Did you remember to uncheck the "show most commonly used items only" box? You will find Christening in the list on the left. Highlight it, click the arrow in the middle to move it to the list of selected items on the right, then use the up/down arrows to move it to the desired position in the list and click OK. 3. Penny, JPG photos should work better than PDF files in FH. Where and how are you viewing the photos in FH? When you use the ""Add" option and choose to "Copy", what "Destination folder" option do you choose? It should be a location within your Project "Media" folder, and that is where photos (and other image files) are copied to. The full path will be something like: C:\Users\Username\Documents\Family Historian Projects\Project\Project.fh_data\Media\... where \Users\ will be \Documents and Settings\ and \Documents\ will be \My Documents\ on Windows XP \Username\ will be your Windows login Username \Project\ will be your FH Project name Use FH menu option "Tools > Work with External File Links" to see all these locations within your project Media folder. The three button options are "Switch to", "Try again" or "Cancel" but this last one is greyed out and thus it's not possible to use. 3. I would strongly recommend avoiding using PDFs or OLE objects, as it's not easy to display them in FH. Make sure you have V4.1 and have set up a project so that when you add images they are copied into the Project folder (I would guess you did not copy them so they were left on the memory stick). When you say they were unclear in FH did you remember to display them 1:1 and not zoomed in? 3. Paddy, I have seen your later E-mail reporting success, but there are some unanswered issues in your earlier E-mail. It is often difficult to know how much detail to give in these E-mail responses. When I mentioned the My Documents\Family Historian Projects\ folder I assumed the default FH Projects setup. You can change the default folder and this is shown on the File > Project Window under the Family Historian Projects list against Location: as a blue link. That is where your 28 Projects are residing with their Media subfolder. Your My Documents\Family Historian Projects\ folder with 8 zip files are probably some old backups left over from the original default setup. When you import your flash drive Gedcom file back into your own computer then its Multimedia file links point to the image files residing on your computer. Unfortunately, there is nothing regarding exporting/importing Projects in the 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 4' PDF. Also, there is little advice under the Help button within FH. Perhaps this topic warrants an article in the FHUG Knowledge Base because it crops up quite regularly. The most important aspect of exporting/importing Projects with their Multimedia files is their Multimedia file links in the Gedcom file. The easiest route relies on using relative file links to Multimedia image files held within the Project's Media sub-folder. To determine this, use Tools > Work with External File Links and examine the File Links pane. If it is headed with Project Data Folder - Media and no disk drive letters are listed, then only relative file links are used. If it is headed with a drive letter and several nested folders down to the FH Projects folder then absolute file links are used (see later how to handle these). If both of the above exist then you have a mixture of relative and absolute links, and need to use both techniques. The way to export a Project with relative Multimedia file links should be to use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project and choose your flash drive. BUT, there is a bug in FH V4 (fixed in V5) that requires a folder to have been created on the flash drive beforehand and that folder chosen to hold the export. An alternative is to use Windows Explorer to copy the entire Project folder and all its sub-folders to the flash drive. The recipient then uses Windows Explorer to copy the entire Project folder from flash drive to their default FH Projects folder. To export a Project or standalone Gedcom and its Multimedia files with absolute file paths is more complex. First, use Windows Explorer to copy the Gedcom .ged file and every folder that contains Multimedia image files to the flash drive. To determine which image folders need to be copied, use Tools > Work with External File Links and examine the File Links pane. The recipient must use Windows Explorer to copy these files and folders from flash drive to their computer. Now the Tools > Work with External File Links > Re-Map/Edit features must be used to correct the absolute image file links. When I go to File>Project Window> 28 projects are listed. When I go to My Documents\Family Historian Projects\ only 8 projects are listed, all as Compressed (zipped) Folders and all with much older modified dates and none with Media folders. The file on the flash drive that I want to export is only a gedcom file, yet when I export it back to my own computer it will open with all the Multimedia images. How can I export a FH Project so that it will include the Media files? I feel I'm missing something important here so if you could point me towards the relevant page in the FH Handbook I should be most grateful. All the data, except the media files, have been imported correctly. Clicking on the blank space where the media file is located, brings up the error message "unable to load object: error in file open". > How can I correct this?
