Mike, Thanks a lot!!! :-) Now I can continue adding all my pictures (maps, landscape images, etc) avoiding them to appear in the diagram as portraits. I haven't seen the "Exclude From Diagrams" option before. :-) 2014-06-01 6:26 GMT-03:00 Beryl & Mike Tate <[email protected]>: > Hi Pedro, > There are several ways to control which multimedia appear in Diagram Boxes. > > (1) Multimedia Preference > If an Individual has more than one image on the Multimedia tab then the > image with highest Preference is displayed in the Diagram > Box. > On the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab select the image you want > displayed and click +* Higher Preference or -* Lower > Preference until it has Pref = 1 in the pane above. > > (2) Exclude From Diagrams > Any image such as a map can be selectively excluded from Diagram Boxes. > On the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab select the image you want > excluded and click the Edit media button. > Then tick the Exclude from Diagrams option lower right, and click OK. > > (3) Avoid Individual Multimedia Tab > Only images linked to the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab are > displayed in the Diagram Box. > You can link images directly to Individual or Family Facts > (Events/Attributes) via the Facts tab. > You can also link images to any Source Record Multimedia tab linked via a > Citation to the Individual or Facts. > These linked images are not displayed in Diagrams. > > If you perform any of the operations above, while the Diagram is > displayed, then the Box portrait will change immediately, so you > can check you have chosen the correct settings. > > Regards, Mike Tate > > -----Original Message----- > Subject: [FHU] How to select which images should appear in charts > > I am creating a huge chart and I want some of the pictures I have added to > each person to appear as portraits. > > The problem is that I have also some maps and all kind of stuff linked as > multimedia. > > It looks like FH always take these images as portraits. Hi Pedro, There are several ways to control which multimedia appear in Diagram Boxes. (1) Multimedia Preference If an Individual has more than one image on the Multimedia tab then the image with highest Preference is displayed in the Diagram Box. On the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab select the image you want displayed and click +* Higher Preference or -* Lower Preference until it has Pref = 1 in the pane above. (2) Exclude From Diagrams Any image such as a map can be selectively excluded from Diagram Boxes. On the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab select the image you want excluded and click the Edit media button. Then tick the Exclude from Diagrams option lower right, and click OK. (3) Avoid Individual Multimedia Tab Only images linked to the Individual Property Box Multimedia tab are displayed in the Diagram Box. You can link images directly to Individual or Family Facts (Events/Attributes) via the Facts tab. You can also link images to any Source Record Multimedia tab linked via a Citation to the Individual or Facts. These linked images are not displayed in Diagrams. If you perform any of the operations above, while the Diagram is displayed, then the Box portrait will change immediately, so you can check you have chosen the correct settings. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] How to select which images should appear in charts I am creating a huge chart and I want some of the pictures I have added to each person to appear as portraits. Dear All, I believe I have already asked this before, but I do not remember getting an answer.... Maybe someone can help me. I am creating a huge chart and I want some of the pictures I have added to each person to appear as portraits. The problem is that I have also some maps and all kind of stuff linked as multimedia. It looks like FH always take these images as portraits. Is there anyway to select not use any multimedia as portraits? I am getting faces for some people and maps for others that do not have portraits... Pedro
Thank you Jane for your assistance. I had forgotten about the Project Window. I had not seen it in years because all my work with FH has been with a single project so far. Everything is now where it should be in the main HD. Much appreciated. Patrick Remy-Maillet Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia
Hello everyone, I recently had to rebuilt a new main hard disk due to the failure of drive C:\ All program have been re-installed as they were before except for Family Historian that is now buried underground as "C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\My Documents\Family Historian Projects" instead of "C:\Family History" as it was before. I really want to move the whole thing back to the surface with the rest of my other programs, except perhaps for "C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Application Data\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ which I never access directly. How do I move the FH application directories and files to C:\Family History ...my home directory? Thank you for any assistance (the knowledge Base does not have the right answer). Presumably your Projects are already in that folder, if not just copy them over using Windows. -- Jane. Jane Taubman | www.rjt.org.uk | www.taubman.org.uk |www.fhug.org.uk
Jane Thanks very much - I've used it several times already. I have also added (in my tweaked copy) the mother's name to the results set and I have found that helpful as well. I have now added the ability to search for either a Parent by first name or a sibbling and you are able to narrow the list by Surname. It can now be downloaded from the Plugin Store. http://www.family-historian.co.uk/pluginstore/plugin-entry?id=418 -- Jane. Jane Taubman | www.rjt.org.uk | www.taubman.org.uk |www.fhug.org.uk

I've been playing around trying to alter the format as to how the names appear on a diagram, I've been playing around in the text scheme and fear I may have messed things up, is the text scheme standard name format supposed to read as %INDI.NAME:FULL% Is it possible to alter the standard scheme so that just the christian names are shown on a diagram not the surnames, if it is what should I alter the scheme to please. Many thanks Ron O'Neill
Jane Thanks - more reading to do. All I've got to do now, using this new FH "tool", is to find out who the mysterious individuals are (I wish there was a magic plugin to solve that problem!!) Jane That helps a lot. I had tried copying some of your original code but I'd use the wrong terminology. At least now I can compare 2 similar plugins and see what effect the differences make. Is there a list of the different Function calls (ie to inbuilt FH functions) ?? Also, is there a "User Help Manual" document that brings all the Plugin "stuff" together in one document or is it primarily in the various Help parts. Jane That does seem to work. I need to play around with a copy of it so I can to tweak the columns that are displayed (ie to show their RecordID, their father's name etc). I've had a quick go but so far I'm not using the right syntax. I've done some coding myself so I need to study this code and other plugin examples to find the right words / functions to use. If so this should be quite an easy job with a plugin, but I suspect a little tricky with a query, as you have multiple siblings and if you want to, step families as well, to check for the second name. -- Jane. Can someone help with writing a query to select individuals who are siblings. The background is that I have 2 sisters listed in a PCC Will and I'm not sure which family they are from. I'm doing a One Name Study so I have over 1500 family groups to check. For a one-off I could just browse my list of individuals but it would be useful to have a pre-built query. I thought about using the Pool number but that would probably pick up people in different generations. I've also thought about using a Family ID number but that would not allow for half-siblings (and I'm not sure of the syntax). Similarly, as they share the same mother / father, could that be used (again, I'm not sure of the required syntax). Many thanks Brian
Hi Caryl, Various NVIDIA graphics problems have been reported with FH. This may be caused by some NVIDIA graphics card OEM drivers. Please visit the NVIDIA site where there is an option to detect your graphics card and send you the correct drivers. http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Caryl gill Sent: 20 May 2014 21:55 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FHU] Unlink problem Hi Mike, Something seems to be resetting my Nvidia graphics card to transparent whenever I use the Unlink option.
