    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Fairbairn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QdV.2ACIB/89.1 Message Board Post: Dear Keith, I was interested to see your e-mail. There were about 10 Fairbairns killed in the Eyemouth disaster: some were from Eyemouth and some from Cockburnspath. The proximilty between the Census being undertaken in the Spring of 1881 and the event in the October has meant that a cross connection can be found for most of the Fairbairns. A book has just been published with a name like "Children of the Sea" by an author called Aitchison which describes the background to the disaster. I have ordered a copy and am awaiting its delivery. This might give you more information. Why am I interested? My mother's maiden name was Fairbairn and her family lived in Berwickshire for part of the period from the 1820's to the 1870's. Unfortunatly I am unable to link into any of the Eyemouth or Cockburnspath families - yet! Perhaps you will keep me informed of your studies. I hadn't thought that there was a Fife connection. Best wishes, David Richardson, Derby, UK.
