Kathleen, My Fagan family came from Westmeath. My Great Grandmother was Margaret Fagan Spreen Carroll. She was born in NY and lived with her husband Richard Carroll in Paterson NJ. Any connection between my Fagans and yours? Eileen Carroll Zima
Hi Cammie: My Fagans are from Colllinstown, County Westmeath, Ireland. I haven't run across any from Virginia or England, but that does not rule out the possibility that some may have gone to those areas. Kathleen
Hi, I am researching Phagan/FAgan's. The first one I have found was in Augusta Co., Va. around 1750, migrated to S. C. 1765. Some of the family, Moses and his two sons, James and Philip moved to Habersham, GA. around 1810/20. Moses, the second one was in White Co., Ga. for a while, buried in Banks Co., Ga. Any of this ring a bell? Harriette Eagan Timmerman
Do you have Phillip Phagan from Augusta, VA. 1762? Thanks, Harriette FAgan Timmerman

May 28, 2003 Hi Kathleen: Thanks for responding to my email on the Fagan family. The researcher that I met in 1997 while I was visiting Castlepollard, told me, the Fagan name was the most popular name in Co. Westmeath. It would be so nice to be able to sort out the Fagan families and find out who my ancestors are. You are probably right, we are all related in one way or another. I would greatly appreciate it if you do come across any information on the Fagans that you send it onto me, and I will surely send any new information onto you. Does anyone have information about this man and his family before they came to the US? Here's what I have: Terrance Fagan, b. 23 January 1767; d. 20 January 1852 in Holly Twp, Oakland Co, Michigan. I believe he came from Drougheda, County Louth, Ireland with his wife Bridget Boylin, b. c 1775 in Ireland, and sons Peter, b. 23 August 1808, John b. c 1810 and Thomas b. c 1817. There may also have been a daughter Nancy. They probably came in the 1820's. He apparently returned to Ireland in 1836, for there is a passenger record for him and Mary Fagan and extra baggage arriving on the "Sarah Sheaffe" in May, 1836. This record was printed in a newsletter of the Detroit Society for Genealogy, Research 5:10 (Aug-Sept 1942) p 208 (Lancour 252). The first record I have of him buying land in Michigan is in October, 1835, though I believe the family was in the US for several years before that. When the family history was recounted at a family gathering in 1932, the "historian" said Peter first went to Michigan in 1832. Peter worked on the Erie Canal, so they may have lived in New York during the period around 1830. It is my understanding that they were Catholic. But son Peter married a woman with a Quaker background; John and Thomas never married. But Peter made up for their lack of children - he and his wife Eliza had fourteen children. Any tidbits would help. Thanks! Shirley Roemer

Hi: I, also, am researching the FAGAN family, however, my Fagans are from Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. I am wondering if somewhere along the line, some of the many Fagan families in Westmeath moved to Scotland. My Fagans are as follows: Luke Fagan Spouse: Elizabeth Halton Children: Anne Fagan, b.1829 Mary Fagan, b. 1831 Bessie Fagan, b. 1833 Peter Fagan, b. 1836 Catherine Fagan, b. 1841 Bridget Fagan, b. 1843 The children were baptized in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Castlepollard. The Fagan family emigrated to New York City about 1853. I have successfully traced Luke, Elizabeth, Bessie and Bridget Fagan in New York and New Jersey. I still have not located Peter, Catherine and Mary. I looked through some of my Fagan documents, but, did not find any records for Hugh Fagan. Should I happen to come across information on Hugh Fagan in my research, I will send the information onto you. Hi, My name is Harriette Fagan Timmerman and I live in West Palm Beach, Fl. My first ancestor, I can trace came to America around 1740 - 50. His name was Philip Phagan and I found him in the Chronicles of the Scotch Irish in Augusta, Va. He married Martha Newman, daughter of Rev. Samuel Newsman in 1763. They received land grants from the kind of England in Berkerly, S. C. Phillip and Martha Phagans son MOses Phagan who was born, 1765 in a wagon trail in N. C. as it passed southward was my next ancestor. His son James FAgan born 1798 in the Pendleton Dist, S. C. was my next ancestor. HIs son MOses C. Fagan, great grandfather was born in Habersham, Ga. in 1825. His son General Alvin Fagan was my granddad and his son, Claud VAnderbilt Fagan was my dad. Of course, there are thousands of Fagans in-between. I don't know where my first ancestor , Phillip came from, probably Ireland. but I don't know where. That is what I am working on. Good luck and God Bless. Harriette

I am sending your info to several Fagan researchers. I am descended from Phillip Phagan, first found in the chronicals of the Scotch- Irish IN Augusta, Va. 1751. His son Moses was born in 1765 on a wagon train as it passed through N. C. on the way to Berkeley, S. C. where Phillip Phagan got a land grant. He later sold the land and moved to the Pendleton Dist. S. C. where he died in 1798. HIs son, MOses Phagan, my 4th great grandfather was a fortunate drawer in the Ga. land lottery of 1827, in Mukeegee, Ga. This was in North Ga. He had two sons, James, my line and Philip who stayed in North GA. James Fagans son Moses Fagan was my great grandfather. Moses was born in Ga. in May 1825 and married Partheney Fagans in March, 1852. Their son General Alvin fagan, born 1869 in White Co. Ga. was my granddad. General and Harriet Bowen Fagans son, Claud Vanderbilt FAgan was my dad. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Harriette Fagan Timmerman, WEst Palm Beach.
Barsheba was born in Virginia on Jan. 6, 1804. She married William M. Harris, who was born in S. C. in 1799 ,in S. C. in 1819. They moved to McMinn Co., Tennessee after 1820 and remained there until about 1865 when they moved to Arkansas. They had 13 children, including my great great grandfather John B. Harris. Barsheba is on the IGI as connected to a Benjamin Tarpley Harris(?) and William Flake. If anyone can identify her parents and/or siblings I will be quite grateful. If anyone can share information about her and is descended from her Fagan line I will gladly share information about the Harris line after 1819.
