    2. Betty, I have not been able to find where in Ireland, my Phillip Phagan/Fagan was from. The trail stops cold before I located Phillip in Augusta Co., Va. I have a record of him applying for a marriage license for him and Martha Newman, daughter of Rev. Samuel Newman. Then, in 1765 the whole group left for S. C. Some of them later went to Ga. where land was being opened up. Then my family, Claud VAnderbilt Fagan, moved back to S.C. in 1934. My parents are deceased and I live in West Palm Beach, Fl. 2. Dear Harriette: Where in Ireland did your FAGANS live? My FAGAN families were from Co Westmeath. Many thanks, Betty Lou Garcia Dear Bonita, I have only been able to trace my Phagan/Fagan ancestors back to 1750's, Augusta Co., Virginia. Phillip Phagan/Fagan was the earliest ancestor I have been able to locate. He and his family got land grants from the king of England as they had left Ireland to escape persecution by the Catholics. Their land grants were in S. C. Hope this helps. Harriette Fagan Timmerman ============================== Search the US Census Collection. Over 140 million records added in the last 12 months. 2. Hi Betty Lou: I am also in NJ. My Fagans came from Westmeath circa 1850. Rumor has it they first lived in Jersey City, then moved to Elizabeth where they raised four children, Mary (or Maria as we've heard her called) James, Christopher and Bernard (my grandfather born 1866). I heard from a distant cousin on AOl that there was a fifth child, Margaret, who was her great-grandmother I believe, married name Adams, but she died young. My grandfather, Bernard Fagan, was married to Ellen Sheridan also of Westmeath. I've been told Fagans and Sheridans often intermarried.

    3. Hi Harriette: As far as I can ascertain, the first of my FAGAN ancestors emigrated to NYC about 1853. This is not to say that other FAGAN ancestors did not arrive in the US earlier in the 17th and 18th centuries. My ancestors came from Co. Westmeath. In looking through some of my research papers from Co. Westmeath, I did not come across the name Phillip. That is not a common name in Ireland. If I do come across any additional information on the FAGAN family, I will be sure to send it onto you. The first ancestor I have found was Phillip Phagan/Fagan who is found in the court records of Augusta, Va. in 1751. He married Martha Newman in Va. and Phillip and Marthas family, Rev. Samuel Newman and his wife moved to Berkerly, S. C. where they had received land grants from the King of England as they h ad left the old country, I presume, Ireland, to escape religious persecution by the Catholics. Do you think perhaps Phillip[ could have been a realative, maybe a brother to your ancestor?
