Mornin', I just spent quite a while searching our website for the notes of Judge William Edgar Evans... and I couldn't find them. So I have reloaded them and you can find them now in the History Section. Following are two emails that I sent way back when I first posted these. Note: some of the words in the copy I sent were so faint that they couldn't be read. These notes have only to do with the branch of our Evanses which moved to Ohio [from Kentucky and before that from PA and MD] EMAIL #1 Hello Evans List.... I am sending the first few [4] pages of a photocopied work which I have only been able to find in one library in the entire US. These 68 or 69 pages were sent to me from the Sons of the American Revolution library in Glendale, California. [The president of that association told me that they have one of the largest libraries... not dedicated to genealogy but one which has much information for genealogists - west of the Rockies. I had never heard of them. They don't loan out their books, but they will make copies for payment... up to a certain number]. What I'd like to know from you is.... have you seen these before? Is that library the ONLY place that this document exists or have you seen them elsewhere? I can tell you that I had a librarian friend of mine search for this document [which I had seen referenced in a work] and she did not even find it at the Library of Congress! I would think that the library of the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society or the Ross County Genealogical Society ought to have this, but... maybe not. -------------------------------------------- EMAIL #2 INTRODUCTION T0: COPY OF NOTES KEPT BY JUDGE [WILLIAM] EDGAR EVANS -- FATHER OF LYLE S. EVANS, OF CHILLICOTHE, OHIO This .pdf document is a transcription of a rare source: "Copy of notes kept by Judge Edgar Evans - Father of Lyle S. Evans, of Chillicothe, O." I am a descendant of that branch of the Evans family which immigrated to America in the 1700’s. Richard Evans and his son, Samuel, came to Maryland about 1730. They then moved to Pennsylvania; from there to Kentucky, finally settling in the Hillsboro, Ohio area. I had come across a reference to these notes by Judge Evans in a source I was researching, but when I tried to locate the document, no one had ever heard of it. I contacted a librarian friend of mine who searched and she was able find this document in only one location: The Sons of the Revolution library in Glendale, California. Not even the Library of Congress had this rare set of notes! The complete name of the author is: Judge William Edgar Evans. Although The Sons of the Revolution will not loan their materials, I was able to pay them to send me a photocopy. Many of the pages were so faint, I decided to transcribe the words. As I worked with the material I realized that I had already seen some of it as excerpts in other accounts of our Evans family branch, but much of the material was totally new to me. William Edgar Evans was the son of Dr. John Baxter Evans and Lucinda Wilson. Judge Evans was married to Julia Belle Sanford. He was born in 16 July 1847 in Frankfort, Ross County, Ohio. One of his children was Lyle Sanford Evans, who has also become associated with this document. I hope you will be as happy as receiving this as I was in discovering this very rare account of our Evans branch! I plan to make copies of the notes from Judge Evans to give to the Southern Ohio Gen. Soc. and the Ross County Gen Soc if they do not have them.
