    3. I have just upload several pages on the Bowie family from Fayette County [Jordan and Hadden's Genealogical and Personal History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, 1912] This is part of a new experiment that I'm conducting.... listing Evans and allied family sources on our site to assist you with your research. I invite you to join me in this endeavor.... I'd prefer if you'd email the scanned pages to me and let me upload them so I can keep an eye on our alloted space on this site. So... if you have any good Evans sources, especially if they come from hard to find sources, let's add them to our site and help each other in our research. And if you go to the site, look under the heading REVIEWS.... and the category Evans and Allied Families Sources The only thing that might curtail this effort is if it takes too much space. R

    3. Roger, here is one source http://www.amazon.com/Across-Prince-Georges-County-Maryland/dp/0806306432 I just did a search for [across the years in prince George's county, by Effie bowie. There are probably other places and possibly at a better price. I bought my copy perhaps 20 years ago and don't remember what I paid for it or just where I got it. The section dealing with the Bowie clan starts on page 621 and ends on page 802. Index and all it is just over 900 pages. 3. Hi I'm listing below what the 3 volume set on Fayette County, Pa has to say about the Griffin family... and here's why... William Griffin was married to Rhoda Pearce. [And Rhoda Pearce, daughter of Philip Pearce and Mary Lyons, was the sister of Mary Pearce, who married Judge Richard Evans, son of Hugh Evans, revolutionary soldier who was granted lands in Ohio and moved there.] Unfortunately, although the set has a lot to say about the Pearce/Pierce family, it doesn't deal directly with OUR Pearces/Pierces. So this is an indirect reference to our branch. The Pearce name was perpetuated throughout the Griffin line: William Pearce Griffin, George Franklin Pearce Griffin, etc. etc. The Pearce name was also perpetuated throughout the Richard Evans/ Mary Perarce line, when they named one of their sons Pierce/ Pearce Evans So here it is: ***** [Renee: This actually comes from the Fayette County, PA 3 vol set. pg 891] The pioneer of the Griffin family in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, was William Griffin, who accompanied by his wife Rhoda settled on Georges Creek, Springhill township, where he followed his occupation of miller, making a comfortable home for his family, which consisted of eight children among whom was William Pearce, of whom further. (II) William Pearce, son of William and Rhoda Griffin, was born September 2, 1809, died March 1, 1901. He obtained a practical education in the common and select schools of the neighborhood, and upon taking up the active duties of life gave his attention to agricultural pursuits, which line of work he followed successfully for the remainder of his life. He was the owner of a well cultivated farm on which was located a comfortable house and out-buildings, and the neat appearance of the entire place evidenced the work bestowed upon it by its owner. He faithfully performed all the duties of a loyal citizen, and during his early life held the rank of lieutenant in the state militia. Two of his sons, William L. and Charles A., served in the war of the rebellion. Mr. Griffin and his wife were for many years members of the Baptist church, but in 1868 the united with the Christian church, of which they became honored and useful members, Mr. Griffin serving in the capacity of elder. He married, August 28, 1816, a resident of Springhill township, who bore him thirteen children among whom was George F. P., of whom further. (III) George Franklin Pearce, son of William Pearce and Ann (Gans) Griffin, was born April 12, 1852, in Nicholson township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania. He attended the public school, Farimont Normal School, Fairmont, West Virginia, and the Law School at Ann Arbor, Michigan, from which he graduated in 1876. He practiced his profession in the west for a number of years, but for the past quarter of a century has devoted his entire attention to farming and fruit growing, which has proved exceedingly profitable. He is a member and elder in the Presbyterian church at Old Frame, and a Prohibitionist in politics. He married (first) May 8, 1879, Josephine Lobingier, who died January 13, 1904. Married (second) October 12, 1905, Mary Rebecca, born May 15, 1859, daughter of John and Rebecca (Williams) Gans, residents of near Morgantown, West Virginia. Children by first wife: John L., born February 9, 1880, died July 13, 1896; Clement P., November 13, 1881, died Marcy 29, 1897; William R., February 25, 1883, married Bess Colvin; George M., April 4, 1884, married Lucile Crow; Chauncey, January 11, 1887, died August 6, 1887; Charles C., February 1, 1888, married Eva Moser; Frances M., March 28, 1890, resides at home. I can also use my ReadIris to put it into text format, but I hesitate to do this [or to post the attachment on our website]... why? 1. Re: [EVANS-RICHARD] help with the Swans
    2. Don Raymond
    3. This is what I have in my notes regarding this subject. I do not list parents for John Swan (1721 - (29 Dec 1799 per tombstone & Bible record) because I don't feel they have been adequately identified. I also found records of other parentage but I didn't even put them in my notes because the accompanying information and description seemed contradictory, confusing and not plausible. ---Per Annabelle Kemp; John Swan was Jr., his father being John Swan, Sr. and mother being Elizabeth (Green) Foster. Also that John, Jr.'s grandfather is Felix Swan who immigrated to MD. from Tyrone Co., Ireland in 1716. John Swan, Sr. married in MD. to Elizabeth Green-Foster in 1720. Elizabeth was the widow of John Foster and mother of four sons, John, Richard, Thomas, and Hugh Foster. Thomas Foster married Delilah Lucas, daughter of John(4), Wm(3), Chas(2), Thos(1). NOTE: this last sentence can hardly be correct. Delilah Lucas was born in 1789 to John & Rachel (Duvall) Lucas and the Thomas Foster that married her is given as born in 1780 in Ann Arundel Co., MD. to John & Elizabeth (Green) Foster yet John Foster is supposed to have died before 1721 unless I can't interpret what they are publishing. Several researchers, including Howard Leckey in "The Tenmile Country And Its Pioneer Families, page 169: John Swan, Sr. and Elizabeth (Green) Foster were the parents of John, Jr. (1721 - 1801) and Comfort (ca 1723 - ?). Researcher, Donald M. Frank, descendant of John & Elizabeth (Evans) Swan, lists John Swan b. ca. 1695 in Co. Tyrone, Ireland and died ca 1727, m. 24 January 1719/20 to Elizabeth Green in St. Barnabas Church, Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's Co., MD., as the father. He also lists the grandfather to be Felix Swan, b. ca. 1670 and died after 1716. He also lists a sister to John, Comfort Swan, b. 5 July 1725. NOTE: Mr. Frank has John Swan (1721) married to Elizabeth Evans. Some parts of these notes do not stand scrutiny while other parts are just plausible enough to perhaps be right. 2. Tomorrow I will get out my Lucas Genealogy (Kemp's) & review her info (mostly from Leckey's Tenmile Country. . . ). I do remember she gives John Swan's parents as John Eliz. (Foster) Greene, or Eliz. (Greene) Foster - anyway, a widow with sons by first husband. Years ago I tried to figure out my Swan & Van Meter lines - both seemed mixed up in the published sources. Think a later researcher has VM corrected, but Swan may still be a "mess." It's great that you are looking at some sources I haven't seen - maybe you'll find some answers! 3. Here's a little section from that book.... I really enjoyed it. I don't know about you, but working with dates and data all the time becomes tedious, and then something like this comes along and it gives a little glimpse into the actual background.... it's like "dessert" :-> Any way, once we decide if Moses should be John's father, I may add more from this page. Keep in mind that Charles was the son of John Swan and Elizabeth Evans Lucas....... ********* "Colonel Charles Swan, son of John Swan, was born in Maryland and early came with his father and the Van Meters to Greene county. He made the journey with the Van Meters, and one of them, Sarah, his future wife, then a girl of ten years, rode the entire distance on horseback with the party. An oath of allegiance to the state, by Henry Van Meter [father of Sarah], a warrant for one thousand acres of land to Charles Swan, on the payment of four hundred pounds; a receipt for one dollar subscription to the Pittsburgh Gazette, dated July 15, 1795, to Charles Swan; notification to Colonel Charles Swan, dated 1810, of the passage of an act granting two thousand dollars for Greensburg Academy at Carmichaels, provided that the Episcopal church, of which Colonel Swan was an active member, would allow the use of its church edifice, are all preserved in Greene county records. Colonel Charles Swan was a leading character in the county, and a man of wealth. He married Sarah Van Meter, with whom he made the journey to Green county in childhood. Robert, son of Colonel Charles and Sarah [Van Meter] Swan, died December 29. 1873. He married, in 1818, Susanna Gregg, who died in 1866, aged seventy-one years. Children Presley G., Sarah Ann, Charles H., Alford G., Ruth, William, Emily. Presley G., son of Robert and Susanna [Gregg] Swan, was born in March, 1821; died in 1891; he married Miranda Hibbs, of Redstone township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania. Children: Richard, married Catherine Boram, Jane Vioet, married Joseph N. Chalfant; John Hibbs, married Harriet Chalfant; Sarah [Sallie] Ann, married Joseph M. Campbell...."
