She was born March 26, 1917, in Green Bay, to Harry and Minnie (Bertholdt) Shepard. On Dec. 27, 1941, she married Vernon Gustave Patz. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1976. She married Jackson Evans in September, 1983. He preceded her in death in September of 2006. Dorothea worked for First Baptist Church as its secretary, preparing their newsletter under the direction of Pastor Don Brown. She then continued employment with the Green Bay Public Schools as secretary to Principal Walter Zahn at Franklin Junior High for many years before her retirement in 1983. She and Gus were lifelong Green Bay residents, raising their family at 1190 Elmore St. in Green Bay. Several years after Gus's death, Dorothea married Jackson Evans. They also lived in Green Bay for many years before retiring to Hot Springs Village, Ark. She returned to Green Bay in 2003 to be near her family! . Dorothea was a very active individual her entire life. She was an avid Packers fan and a proud season-ticket holder. She enjoyed all kinds of sports and especially followed professional football, baseball, and golf. She also enjoyed and kept up-to-date with college basketball. She was an accomplished golfer, and was a member of Oneida Golf and Country Club for many years. She enjoyed the competitive spirit of the game, and established several close friendships through golf. She was an excellent bridge player, and competed in several Master Bridge tournaments. In addition to her sports interests, Dorothea was totally committed to educational development her entire life. She was a voracious reader, serving as a wonderful role model to her family, especially her grandchildren, to pursue their highest levels of educational development. It was always difficult to "beat Grandma" at a game of Scrabble. Survivors include her three sons, David Patz, Green Bay; Jim (Bonnie) Patz and their sons, Ryan and Ben Patz, Epping, N.H.; and Alan (Barbara) Patz, and their daughters, Alison, Kathryn, and Jacqueline Patz, Long Grove, Ill. Gathering time with family and friends will be held at First Baptist Church, 2421 West Point Road, Green Bay, on Saturday, March 31, from 10:30 a.m. until the Memorial Service to honor Dorothea's memory at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend John C. Nehs officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the staffs at Harbor Suites Assisted Care and Unity Hospice for their care.
