Hi Lynne Charles, UK, It would be exciting to have a connection across the pond, especially to Pembrokeshire, Wales, one of my favorite places! With the earliest Evans that I have heard about being William Evans b. ca 1780 in North Carolina, I don't know where to go next to find a link. Do you have any records of Evans in Wales that had family members who "disappeared" in the late 1700s? Looking at ships' manifests would only work if we had William's father's name, because if William was born in North Carolina, he would not be listed on a ship. If William Evans, Mariner, Pembroke, Wales, had a daughter born 1818, a guess would have him born sometime before 1800, and younger than William b. 1780 NC. This could mean he (William/Pembroke) was a cousin or nephew to the William/NC. ???? Probably they wouldn't be brothers (two Williams?) and William/Pembroke would not have been old enough to be William/NC's father left behind in Wales. And, since William/Pembroke was a mariner, he might have been able to keep contact with part of the family that had emigrated to the "new world." And - William is a very common name and Evans is/was a very common name in Wales. This is all wild speculation, but fun - and these wild speculations are the things that often get us to the next step in our searches for family links. Do you know where the Dunn family of Elizabeth Dunn in the 1891 census originated? A connection to Sela Dunn is almost a100-year stretch, since William/NC married Sela Dunn around 1806 (that's not a firm date, just that their first kid might have been born in 1807), and Sela was b. ca 1780/90 in North Carolina.
