John Evans Jr. and Sarah Batte were the parents of several children including John, Robert, and William (My Line). William had land on the Nottoway River in Amelia County. There are a lot of non-Evans relatives with the first name of Thomas. William Evans' next door neighbor in Amelia County was Thomas Ellis. Thomas Ellis' wife was Martha Evans, sister of William Evans. Living next to John and Sarah Batte Evans in Prince George County was Thomas Batte Jr. He was the brother of Sarah Batte. One of Sarah Batte's brother-in-laws was credited with being the founder of Petersburg in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Robert Evans died in Petersburg at his son's house. His son was Batte Evans. An example of the real estate is that Stephen and Robert Evans had land on Stony Creek next the their father John Evans. It is bounded by the Water Course of Flatt Brook. This is a Prince George real estate entry dated 1745. I sho! uld point out that county boundaries changed over the years. Nottoway River could easily been in Prince George, Amelia, and Nottoway Counties depending on the time of your research. There is a book titled "The Complete Ancestry of Tennessee Williams" by John Brayton. John Brayton was a descendant of William Evans. He has a chapter on the Evans family which mentions a lot of the real estate. I typed a copy of the chapter and would be glad to e-mail it to you. It is about twenty pages. Winifred Evans married Robert Hicks Jr. Winifred was the sister of John Evans Jr. Thomas Lanier aka "Tennessee" Williams is a direct descendant of Robert and Winifred Evans Hicks. One strange thing I found in my index is that a Jane Howerton married a Vincient Holt which is my mothers line. However, based on the age of a Holt brother Jane and Vincient would have been married in the early 1800's. Brian Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
