Author: Moutrey Surnames: Evans Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9847.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have often wondered if the Welsh settlers of Radnor, OH were from Radnor, Wales so I have looked online at Radnorshire Evans families for possible connections to my Evans. William Evans, my GGgrandfather was 'of Welshpool' and I don't know if he was born there as he is not in the 1841 Wales Census. It is such a common name that I'm following any leads I can find. The Evans in Wales and the US often married their cousin and there was a considerable ovemment of Welsh people in the early 1800's as they went where ever they could make a living. Radnorshire is next to Montgomeryshire and by US standards Welshpool and Radnor are not far from each other. Have any of your Evans relatives had their DNA tested? It cold give some information about which Evans line your family descends from. My mitochondrial DNA is Haplogroup T2 which is not rare but somewhat uncommon in the Welsh population. This put me in contact with another person with Haplogroup T2 who was an exact match. His mo! st direct maternal ancestor was Elizabeth Evans b. 1816 Welshpool. Her descendents eventually migrated to England and he lives in Germany. We are looking for a paper trail to connect my Ann who married William Evans of Welshpool with his Elizabeth Evans. There is an Evans surname progect at Family Tree DNA which is shedding some light on the Y DNA male Evans lines. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
