Through information from the local Welsh society the impression is that the Evans in Union (west of Franklin County/Columbus) would have come to Cleveland from PA and then south towards Randor in neighboring Delaware county. They were farmers. But the Evans in Logan and the rest of SE Ohio came in through what is now West Virginia and were mostly coal miners. The "big city" of Columbus attracted both groups over the years through employment in manufacturing (which vanished from Columbus by the 1960's). During the last 15 years it seems as if the most common Cymreig family name in SE Ohio and Columbus went from "Jones" to "Evans". Local joke is that it helped the SE Ohio phone companies as they no longer need to publish a seperate directory for the name "Jones". As for having "Roberts" in your family, not the family out of Mifflin Township in eastern Franklin County. That's the family to which I am associated. Nor do we have any known "Jones". However, the my adopted Roberts family was employed by Ralston Steel Car Company which was located along the railroad running between Mifflin and Turbo Townships (Whitehall, Bexley, Reynoldsburg, OH). Ralston was a major employer for both townships. There are at least three older Roberts famlies in Turbo that I know of, one, maybe two had family members at Ralston 1905-1953. Maybe they were with your relation? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
