    3. Hi Kathy, Yes, indeed, Sally is usually a nickname for Sarah, and you may see the names used interchangeably in researching. The James Stewart who married Sally Evans in Warren Co., in May 2,1791, bondsman Eaton Walden, was a Free Person of Color out of Brunswick Co.,VA, son of Rebecca Stewart of that location. They were moved to Wake Co.,NC by 1800 listed as head of household of 6 Other Free, and he died in 1824 leaving a will naming his children Evans, Beedy (wife of James Walden), Mackey (wife of Joel Stuart), Tazewell, Dickson, Elijah & Elisha Stewart. As further info, Eaton Walden, son of John Chavis Walden, (married to Nanney Evans, dau/of Charles Evans of Mecklenburg Co.,VA) was in the 1790 & 1800 Warren Co.,NC Census, head of a household of 3 Other, and 6 Other Free, respectively, later moved to Randolph Co., NC, then on to Indiana by 1840, as did several other members of the Evans families who came out of VA and who had settled for a short time in Warren Co.NC. 2. HI Delores I think I wrote you not long ago pertaining to this line and inquiring about any Elbert/Madison/Oglethorpe co ga connections. My grimes/wilhtie desc married EVANS there. Anyway. THat is interesting! I read somewhere the Evans in this area were mulatto. I guess if this is our line, James Stewart "passed" for white, as he stayed behind, left will in Granville co NC 1835. SALLY Stewart later lived with her son Thomas then her daughter. I dont' see any familiar names in this line. Dont' recall many Stewart's around this time either so either James was a lone child or his family MOVED and he stayed cause he "passed"??? I will look further into it. Do you know of any other Stewart/Stuart families in the area at this time? Thanks!
