The Northwest Territory was created in 1787. That was divided into Indiana Territory (and others) in 1810. Indiana became a state on 10 December, 1816. Knox County was the first county formed and that was in 1790 ergo as part of the Northwest Territory. Putnam County was formed in 1821 from Vigo and Owen Counties. Vigo and Owen Counties were formed in 1818; Vigo from Sullivan County, Owen from Daviess and Sullivan Counties. Daviess and Sullivan Counties were both formed in 1816 from Knox County. I checked the index in my books on Indiana Territorial Records and found no Thomas or Sarah (Roberts) Evans. I did find a Samuel Evans, a Benjamin Evans and a John Evens/Evans.
