Dear Jenny, Can you tell me when this John Wesley Evans lived, and where he lived?  I have a John Wesley Evans, b. 1854 TX & d. 1941 MO.  He was married to a Martha Jane Denison.  This is certainly not the same person, but I wondered if they might connect some way.
