He moved to Missouri and married (1850's) Sarah Boyce (1829) and then moved to Kansas (1850-1860?) and had children including Abisha, Charles, Jane, Martin Silas, etc, then moved with several children to Washington in late 1880's. I can find 1880 US Census images and 1860 US Census images, but that's it. I know many Evans families made a trek from PA -> SC -> GA -> AL, anyone know where to find the facts? Any help greatly appreciated.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Evans, Wood, Woods Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9592/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi there, I'm trying to find documentation on my great grand mother on my father's side. Apparently she was a full Cherokee Indian making me 1/4 and I am trying to do everything I can to prove my lineage, specifically as to join the Cherokee nation as I am the last of my family to be eligible. My father has not pursued this because he isn't interested, and my grandfather is now dead and much of the history I needed is now gone with him. My grandmother is now getting feeble and cannot really direct me where I need to go either. I intend to try and get access to town records as soon as I can, but being a college student time is lacking on many fronts. I was wondering if anyone in the Evans clan had specific documentation on this marriage and who Mary Wood/Woods was or if anyone could give me anymore information that I do not already have. My family originated from Wales, Ireland and the North Georgia Mountains: Pickens County and Jasper, Ga. Please let me know if you have any ! info! Thank you so much!

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: EVANS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9590/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Gaston County, North Carolina as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Soldier: WALLIS J. EVANS Born:September 1, 1932, Caucasian Date of loss:Missing in Action, December 6, 1950. His remains were never recovered. When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Evans family is one of those missing. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UQV.2ACEB/6711.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Mary-Lyn. No new information on Lilian Morris/Evans from this end. You mentioned that you're already in possession of Lilian's birth certificate, but have you found her baptism record?. This may give the father's name (or maybe illegitimate children weren't christened in Victorian times?). Her marriage certificate, should in theory, also give her father's name. John Evans married Mary James on 31 July 1879, so it appears strange that within 12 months Rosa was conceiving a child by him. John and Mary had the first of their thirteen children in March 1882. My grandfather, also named Richard (1888 - 1968), was the fifth eldest. Last weekend my father was writing Xmas cards to his cousins (also descended from Richard and John Evans), so I asked him to mention Lilian's name to see if there was any response. Richard Evans was buried at St. Mary's Church, Aberavon in 1887. Unfortunately his wife Margaret was not interred with him. I don't know what happened to her after 1901 or where she was buried. On FreeBMD I've found two possible death dates for Margaret - 3Q/1903 (79 years old) and 1Q/1909 (82 years old). John and Mary Evans are buried together at St Peter's Church, St Pierre's, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. Do you know why Llilian went to China?. As you're in possession of Richard's prayer book please could tell me the wording of any inscription. Finally could I ask you where in the world you live?. I live in Halesowen, England. Do you have any photographs of Lilian or Richard?. Regards Richard
