At the time of their marrige however, both were resident in London; Edward was a Customs & Excise Officer, and Elizabeth was in the royal household of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Whilst it is clear that Elizabeth was latterly in London, returning to be married in Wales, I have no such information for Edward Evans. It seems much more likely that he was 'London Welsh', and in that case, we may have interests in common. Can you shed any light on your Edward's descendants? In the meantime, I will try find out more about my grandfather - no easy task with the surname 'Evans'! What I do know is that my father, Rowland Ellis Evans was born in Hendon, Middlesex, not that far from St Lukes. Rgds Karen

I wonder if there is a chance these families may have crossed paths. What county was George born in or at least what county in Ala was the 1880 US Census you reffered to taken. Jack

I have a family member, Martin Silas Evans (born 2 Jun 1866 to George M. Evans & Sarah C. Boyce in Kansas) who traveled to Texas in 1882 to visit family. Any info greatly appreciated as I have none. It's possible he was accompanied by his brother Abisha W. Evans (Born 7 Mar or Jan 1860 in Kansas). Both of these brother's and their parents moved to Washington/Oregon area around 1889.

I now know his son, Martin Silas, travel to Texas at the age of 16 to visit family. So it's possibly George had a brother or sister who traveled there and I plan to investigate that line.

My father was Rowland Ellis Evans; I think his family came from Merionethshire, but he was born in Hendon, Middlesex (Greater London) to Edward Evans and Elizabeth Rowland Davies. Edward and Elizabeth were married in Dolgelly in 1902. Edward was a Customs & Excise officer, and at the time of their marriage, Elizabeth was in the royal household - chef to King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. I recently visited Sandringham which I found very interesting - particularly the handwritten menus on display - I wondered if they were written by my grandmother? Before his death, my father, who was born in 1911, mentioned that his 'Uncle Davy' went to Canada, and was at some stage Chief of the Royal Canadian Mountain Police. He always claimed there was a statue somewhere! I don't know the truth of this claim, but where there's smoke, there's usually fire.....so I think a Canadian connection is more than likely. I'll have a closer look at the names you mention to see if I can find a common thread. ; Karen
