Surnames: Evans, Miller, Stolsig Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9627/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for any information on Lela or Gene Evans. Lela was my great grandmother and married a Stanley Miller. She died young, and her two daughters were sent to live with Stanley Miller's sister, Delsie Miller Stolsig. Gene (maybe Eugene?) Evans was Lela's father. The only date I have is my grandmother's birthdate in 1921, so I would assume that Lela was born c. 1895 and died c. 1925, and Gene was probably born c. 1870.
This Evans Family may in deed be related to "My Evans Families". I am a direct descendent of the First Evans Family in the Clay County in 1795+ (now Owsley & Lee Counties). I have SEVERAL "SIMPSON EVANS" Families in my family tree. Can you tell me any other info like DOB and/or Death or wife's name etc.? I do know that at least some of my Evans Tree does end up in Montgomery County and/or Mt Sterling area by the late 1800s & early 1900s. Thanks. When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families. Does anyone have access to the Hardin Co. TX death certificates or funeral home records for Hardin Co. Texas that would be willing to provide info? Texas Death Index 1903-2000 lists Robert E. Evans died Oct 17, 1945 Cert. #44013 and Mattie Evans died April 18, 1960 Cert. # 29722, both in Hardin Co. I am interested in family info listed on the certificates esp. names of parents and person submitting the info. 1930 census lists them as living in Saratoga, Precinct 7. This is the first new info I have found on this family in a long time. Hopefully someone will read this message who knew them personally and respond. Louise Evans
