Thanks for posting all this information in 03/2004 , as confusing as it is !! But that's ok, because I have been confused for a LONG time with my EVANS family line. Probably a big reason I haven't been researching the last couple years. Also, you made this post about the same time I changed Internet Service Providers and my old email address became deactivated. According to the publication "Intrepid Warrior" authored by a descendant of Clement Anselm Evans , a family tree shows Clement's father Anselm Lynch Evans was a brother to Turner Evans (my ggg grandfather)... and A.L. and Turner's father was listed as a John Evans whose parents were George and Hannah Evans. I just wish I could find a legal record, such as a census, to prove these relationships. Ginger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have that book too. I guess since I have seen so much mixed up information on the family line in so many different publications, I have also doubted what was printed in this book. I have saved some early and later year photos of Clement Anselm Evans that I have found along the way. The one picture I have of him at an older age looks SO much like my father. You probably know which photo I am speaking of. Please send me a private email by clicking on my name above to get my current email address. I would love to talk more with you and compare family features/data etc since we most likely have the same 4th Great Grandfather. Plus I would like to discuss all the conflicting data I have been reading about our line. Thanks ! Ginger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I purchased a book "Intrepid Warrior", Life, Letters and Diaries of Clement Anselm Evans, by Robert Grier Stephens Jr. He is the grandson of Clement Evans. In the book is a family tree and it does list Turner Evans as the brother of Anselm Lynch Evans. It says that all that is known about him is his name...sorry there's not more. Anselm Lynch Evans is my GGG Grandfather, so I guess we have the same GGGG Grandfather...John Evans. The book says John Evans wife is unknown. It also lists George Evans-Hannah as John Evans father. You might want to get a copy of this book (available on Amazon.com)...it has a alot of personal information and family trees. Hope that helps! I know a couple people who are descendants of a Thomas Evans who moved to MS from GA after his first wife Nancy died. This would have been sometime in the 1830s if I remember right. I have been trying to confirm if this same Thomas Evans was a brother to my ggg grandfather Turner Evans, born 1793 GA. Have also been told that both of these brothers had a sibling named Anselm Lynch Evans, which has not been confirmed. Do any of these names sound familiar to you ? 1. [EVANS] Rebecca Evans Mitchell
    2. Larry or Elaine
    3. Allan, I'm sure that my Rebecca Evans is not the same as yours. However, I'm interested in the names and wonder if there might be a connection somewhere. Perhaps someone else on the list knows. My Rebecca Evans was the daughter of Alexander and Rebecca (Wooten) Evans (married Oct. 7, 1809). They had a daughter named Rebecca. I know my Evans family married into the Marion family of NC. All of this took place in Surry County, North Carolina. I've heard that we are related to "Swamp Fox" (Francis Marion) of Rev. War fame. I also know that some of my Evans married into the Mitchell family, but that has been in more recent generations - to my knowledge. Therefore, I was interested in the name "Francis Marion Mitchell" since families often used names of famous relatives. So--does any of this rambling ring any bells to anyone on the list. I hope so. It makes me think about my father's brother, born in the early 1900s but died young. My grandparents named him Cortez and I have to this day never heard WHERE that name originated. My father used to tell me we had Indian blood but I have never found that connection yet. My EVANS line starts in the 1790s in Georgia, when my ggg grandfather Turner Evans was born. My gg grandfather John A. Evans migrated by covered wagon from GA to Louisiana in the mid 1800s. I have yet to find the confirmed parents of Turner Evans. So the 1790s is as far back as I go. Can you tell me more about the Cortez connection in your family ?? Thanks, Ginger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
