Would you look at it and see if it is the same family of Hannah? I really don't have much info and no proof other than what I have listed. So any help is appreciated! I forgot to add in my post that the parents of Amelia McGee Evans were James Hyatt McGee and Eleanor Fry(e). I believe it was Amelia who was supposed to have been the first white child born in what is now Jackson County, MO. My families skipped back and forth across the river between Jackson County and Clay County, MO. (Often spending the winters in Jackson County which was more developed). My line is through: John Evans & Elizabeth Brassfield William Brassfield Evans and Amelia McGee Amanda McGee and William C. Campbell Ella Mary Campbell and James Oscar Davidson Ernest Evans Davidson and Etta Beeman James Campbell Davidson(age 93)and Virginia Cook Holly Annette Davidson (ME) I have grandmother Amelia McGee's childhood sampler! Any other info I have comes from the 1885 info printed below also provided by James. I have a some dates... but not enough info!!!! One of our cousins was William Webster Campbell who was a silent movie star and director who was married to Corrine Griffith. Our McGee, Campbell and Davidson family members who are not in the family cemetary in Liberty, MO mostly are buried in Elmwood Cemetary in Kansas City, MO. My Davidson line goes back to a John Davidson in Madison County, KY. Source: "History of Clay and Platte Counties, Missouri" published in 1885 James C. EVANS, farmer. Mr. EVANS' grandfather, John EVANS, was one of the first five householders who settled in Clay county with their families in 1820. He was from Madison county, Ky., and on first coming to this State resided for two years in Howard county. In 1829 he removed with his family to Clinton county, being one of the first settlers of that county. He died there in 1840. William B. EVANS, the father of the subject of this sketch, was 12 years of age when his parents came to Howard county from Kentucky. Thence he went with them to Clay county, and with them from Clay to Clinton county in 1829. The following year, however, he crossed the river into Jackson county, where Kansas City now stands. There he met and was married to Miss Amelia McGEE, a daughter of James H. and Eleanor McGEE. That was in 1830, and the same year Mrs. EVANS (his wife) had 80 acres of land set apart to her by her father from the family homestead, the same 80 now forming a part of Dundee place. Mr. EVANS settled on this with his young wife, and made it their home for a number of years. The ownership of the land continued in Mrs. EVANS' name until two years ago, when the title was transferred to the Dundee Company. Mr. EVANS was one of the founders of Kansas City. He established the first ferry there. He helped to survey and plat the place and bought the first lots sold. He early built a house of entertainment down at the ferry, and what is now the foot of Main street, where many and many a traveler stopped in those early days when on their way to and from the great West. He also had a large warehouse and storage buildings. He died at Kansas City in 1855. His wife, however, is still living, at the advanced age of 72. They had 10 children, five of whom are living, including the subject of this sketch. James C. EVANS was born on the present site of Kansas City, April 25, 1833. He was reared in Jackson county, and given a good common school education. November 15, 1860, he was married in Clay county to Miss Elizabeth CAMPBELL, a daughter of Samuel W. and Mary CAMPBELL, early settlers of this county. The following year Mr. EVANS removed to Clay county and settled on the farm where he now resides. He has been a resident of the county ever since. Mr. EVANS has made himself one of the substantial citizens and successful farmers of the county. His home place is a fine farm of 250 acres, on which he has a handsome brick residence, built at a cost of $12,000. Mr. EVANS is an active member of the Grange, and has been a member of that organization since it was first established in this county. He takes a warm interest in the welfare of the order. He is also one of the leading horticulturists of the West, and is now president of the State Horticultural Society. April 11, 1882, Mr. EVANS had the misfortune to lose his wife. She left him eight children at her death. She was an earnest member of the Christian Church. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Evans, his brother Theodore is living with him. I believe that George R. Evans is listed during the 1900 census in the household of James W. Evans and wife Ada. Ada is apparently his step-mother. In the 1910 Census, James Evans is listed as John, but I believe that this is the same man. Theodore is listed in that household also. As far as George's occupation, he is listed as a farmer on his WWI Draft Registration Card. That was on June 5, 1917. He stated that he was former Navy and had received a medical discharge. He is listed as medium height and build, with gray eyes and brown hair. He lists his date of birth as November 17, 1888, Charleston, South Carolina. I am not related to this line. Good Luck! 1. [EVANS] EVANS (Washington, DC)
    2. Beverly Thomas
    3. Is there anyone on this list that is researching the EVANS surname found in Washington, DC? I am at a huge brickwall on my EVANS family. My ggrandfather was Robert Lee Evans. He lists on his marriage record that his parents were John and Nettie Evans. On the 1900 census he lists their birthplace as Washington, DC but he was born in Virginia. His birth year would have been 1872/marriage record and according to census, I can't find a John and Nettie Evans with a son in the 1880 census. I did find a John and Henrietta Evans in Rockbridge Co., Va in 1870 and 80 but no children in household. Both of these people listed Washington, DC as their birthplace........I can't find them in 1900 census. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bev

    1. [EVANS] William EVANS and Sadie IV(E)Y GA / NY prior to 1875
    2. Kemis Massey
    3. My g grandfather William EVANS was born and raised in GA. His father was a Methodist minister so the moved every 2 years. My gg grandparents James E. EVANS and Permalia MAYS married in Lincoln County in 1831. In the 1850 census they were in Chatham County and William was 3 months old. In 1860 census they were in Bibb County. In 1870 census they were in Chatham County and William was 20. Other records show that they also lived in Floyd County and multiple times in the other counties.. In February 1873 William and his wife Sadie IV(E)Y were in Poughkeepsie, NY having my grandfather James Jefferson EVANS. Then in 1875 his sister Lucy. William is listed in the 1880 census living in Dekalb County, GA as a widower with a son Jeffie. I have a copy of a letter written in June 1880 from William to the mother of his 2nd wife. In the letter he talked about how Jeffie and Lucy loved Anna like their own mother. How hard it was for them losing her. He had sent Lucy to live with his father (and she is in the 1880 census with her grandparents). He couldn't keep Jimmie so he was sending him by train to West Point, GA (Harris County) for her to take care of. He was keeping Jeffie with him. He did send Jeffie to live with Jimmie and his grandparents - never saw either of his boys again. My problem is where did William find and marry Sadie? My grandfathers death certificate says his mother was born in Okeepsie, NY - now either my uncle had misunderstood his father or ? ? However in the 1880 census by Jeffie (with his father) and Lucy's (with her grandfather) name they had the state mother was born in as GA. So that still leaves where did William meet Sadie? Now the next piece to the puzzle - according to my mother her father told them his mother was Cherokee. I've always been told that Jeff had red hair and blue eyes - I never met him as he died before I was born. My mom was the next to the youngest of 13 children. All 5 boys had reddish hair and all 8 girls brown to black hair. I've been to the IV(E)Y lists and now I'm starting with the places in GA I know William lived. Does anyone know of an IV(E)Y that was Cherokee and lived in GA between 1870 and 1872? Tall order? I've been working on my EVANS line for 7 - 8 years and found my gg grandparents this year. The EVANS - IV(E)Y line is a tough wall to break - helppppppppppppppppppppppppp Happy Family Hunting, kemis massey sobbygenealogy@knology.net Researching: for hubbie: MASSEY, BROOKS, FOUNTAIN, SMITH for me: SONGER, CAMP, EVANS, IV(E)Y, DUKE, ROSAMOND, MAY Sobby Genealogy http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~sobbygenealogy/
