    3. Is there anyone on the list doing research on Richard EVANS Jr. who died in 1693. Was he descended from the Royal line Prince Modoc came from. Prince Modoc is said to have explored Alabama. Even though this is viewed as myth it make a pretty good tale to pass down to ones children. How can I get a copy of Richard Evans Jr.'s will? His wife Elizabeth married my 8thgreatgrandfather James Oates 11 Sept 1694 in Perquimans County NC. Richard and Elizabeth's children were Jonathan, Richard III, Rebecca, Ann, and Sarah. Old Albemarle County Perquimans Precinct Births, Marriages, Deaths, & Flesh Marks 1659-1820 shows Rebecca's d.b. as 1688. Yet there is a Transportation of Persons Form which shows that all of the oldest children were born before 15 Aug. 1678. Now does this mean the three oldest or Ann as well. Ann died in 1700. Jonathan and Richard died Jonathan in 1723 and Richard III in 1752 both in Chowan County I believe. I know nothing about where Rebecca and Ann were at the time of their deaths. After James's death in 1703 Elizabeth married Richard French. His will in 1716 names a wife Elizabeth as his Executor. Any help on this would be grateful. Thanks Le

He spent most of his life in Hephzibah, Georgia. His sons were Nathan, Enoch (our great grandfather), Charlie, Ned, Jack and Prince, Jr. His wife was Emma Evans. We have only been able to determine that the family worshiped at the Franklin Covenant Baptist Church in Hephzibah and that they had a close relaionship with the Walker family. As best we know, Prince Evans,Sr. was a farmer. He may have worked for A. C. Cooper of Hephzibah. Cannot prove that at this point. His son Enoch became an ordained minister in 1892, relocated to NYC where he and two of his sisters-in-law founded a church. For reasons unknown, he returned to the Augusta are in 1910. We have no further information about him. Any information you can provide about Prince or Enoch, or any of the "Evans boys" will be greatly appreciated. Gwynedd Friends Meeting Historical Notes Descendants of Ievan known as Evan Robert Lewis The Evans family of Gwynedd, Pennsylvania Generations: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Introduction from H.M. Jenkins (1897) It is intended to present, here, systematically, all the ascertained facts concerning Thomas, Robert, Owen, and Cadwallader Evans, of Gwynedd, and their descendants. The details given are by no means complete: some of the branches of the family could not be traced beyond the early generations; and in some cases information asked for was not furnished; yet the mass of facts given is extensive, and may serve as the basis for fuller work by any one who is particularly interested in the family. The origin of the Evans family, in Wales, is indicated by notes given on a following page by the late Mrs. William Parker Foulke, the ancestress of her husband having been the daughter of Robert Evans. Her facts are drawn from a very elaborate family document prepared by the late Rowland E. Evans, son of Cadwalader of Philadelphia. It traces the descent of the four brothers of Gwynedd back to Mervyn Vrych, King of Man, who was killed in battle with the King of Mercia, A.D. 843. Mervyn married Essylt, daughter and sole heiress of Conan Tyndaethwy, King of Wales (who d. 818 or 820.) Both Mervyn and Essylt traced their descent from Lludd, King of Britain, brother of Caswallon, the chief who resisted the invasion of Caesar, before the Christian era. Passing over, however, a number of intermediate generations, from Mervyn Vrych, the following may be noted: David Goch, of Penllech, appears to have been a lessee of crown lands in Caernarvonshire, in the 18th year of Edward II., and to have been living on November 9, 1314. He married Jane ap Cadwalader. H.M. Jenkins: From the sons of Evan Robert Lewis, many of the Welsh settlers of Pennsylvania were descended. John ap Evan, it is stated, had several children, and one account says that two of them were William John, of Gwynedd (the purchaser, with Thomas Evans, of the township), and Griffith John, of Merion, (who d. 1707). This would make William John and Thomas Evans first cousins, and such a relationship is very probable. Cadwalader ap Evan, the second son of Evan Robert Lewis, it is stated, left no children. "Of Griffith ap Evan nothing is known." The descendants of Owen ap Evan are very numerous; they form the Owen family, the posterity of Robert (and Jane) Owen, of Merion, who came from Wales in 1690, and d. 1697; and the Cadwalader family are his descendants also, in the female line. Editor's note from the year 2002: Recently we have seen an internet line that says that the 1698 ap Hugh and ap Griffith families are descendants of Griffith ap Evan (see preceding paragraph). This line goes as follows. The Hugh ap Griffith who settled near Spring House is the son of Griffith ap Hugh. The Robert ap Hugh (married Sarah Evans) and Evan ap Hugh who settled near the present borough of North Wales are the sons of Griffith ap Hugh. The ap Hugh surname is now Pugh. According to our internet source, other children of Hugh ap Griffith include Ellen, Griffith, Edward and David (m. Mary Catherine Price).This is a different Pugh family than the family of Ellis Pugh of Merion and later Plymouth who was a Quaker minister. Both Pugh families seem to have largely migrated to Virginia (Loudoun, Frederick, Hampshire counties) and points south in the early 1700s. See Peugh family history for more. He was a member of the Provincial Assembly from 1739 to 1750 inclusive. Will: April 18, 1754, proved 2 May 1757. He leaves his son Samuel a lot of land, "adjoining the tract that I have already conveyed to him, containing 82 acres." Notes for CADWALLADER EVANS ROBERTS: Historical Collections of Gwynedd by H.M. Jenkins, 1897 Came with first settlers to Gwynedd twp. in today's Montgomery Co., PA in 1698 with the first wave of Welsh settlers, probably with brother Morris, probably on the ship "Robert and Eliabeth". His father and other children followed later. His name appears on a marriage certificate 22 Mar 1699. He bought land of Robert John in 1710 adjacent to the present borough of North Wales. His name is on the subscription paper for building a new meeting house built in 1712 at Gwynedd. His marriage took place in Rowland Ellis' house in Merion, afterwards the house of Charles Thomson, Secretary of the Continental Congress. More About CADWALLADER EVANS ROBERTS: Burial: May 09, 1731 Notes for ELEANOR HUMPHREY: Her last name is Ellis in H.M. Jenkins' book (1897) as her father is named Humphrey Ellis. Ellin Humphrey is her name on the marriage certificate. After her husband died of small pox, she became administratrix of his estate, letters being issued to her 31 May 1731. First settled in Oxford twp., near Philadelphia. Later moved to Montgomrey twp., PA. His will dated May 15, 1763 was proved 30 Sep 1773. He leaves his grandson John Jones a tract of 100 acres "where he now liveth" in Montgomery. his son John got 162 A. He mentions grandsons Evan Jones, John Roberts, Jane McKinley and his daughter Elizabeth Blair. He leaves 5 pounds to the Hospital in Philadelphia. Many other grandchildren are named. Notes for ROWLAND ROBERTS: Immigrated from Wales about 1700 with his father. A minister amongst Friends. Visited Wales as a preacher. Established a tavern in Montgomery twp. His will is dated 12 Jul 1749 and was probated Oct 1749. He leaves to daughter in law Hannah Jones two small plots of land with the stipulation that she does not set up a competing tavern. He also mentions daughter in law Mary Davis, son in law James WIlliams and his wife Anne. His son Eldad was appointed executor. Notes for ANN BENNETT: Ann was a Quaker minister who traveled with her husband. She was a widow when she married him from Abington meeting, PA. H.M. Jenkins, p 91: "Ann Roberts, who died on the 9th of 4th month (Nov 4), 1740 (She was seventy-three at her death.), was a native of Wales and had been a minister for fifty years. She was a widow, Ann Bennett of Abington, when she married Rowland Roberts, and removed to Gwynedd. The memorial of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting , in the 1787 Collection says: 'her first coming among us [1705-1710] was seasonable, for we having few ministers, the field before her was extensive, in which she labored fervently. ' Her usefulness in drawing out younger ministers is noted, and it is added that "she went pretty much abroad, visting Friends in this and the adjacent provinces, to wit, the Jerseys, Maryland, Virginia and Carolina, accompanied to the remotest parts by her near and dear friend Susanna Morris. In her more advanced years she visited Great Britain, accompanied by our esteemed friend Mary Pennel. After her return she met with great difficulties in respect to her outward circumstanc! es, which she sustained with Christian fortitude. After this, she met with a very heavy affliction in the loss of her husband, which she likewise bore with becoming resignation. She suffered from the dropsy near the close of her life. (H.M. I'm including my Evans cousin in this email who met me in Kentucky and shared this pilgrimage with me. She will be delighted to hear about the digital photos you have sent. I was in the very museum you saw the Bible in just one week ago today! No one there mentioned its existence. I could have taken the digital photos myself [but then I wouldn't have gotten to "meet" you.] They were all so busy getting ready for some event that I guess they didn't think to let us know. Wonder what was going on there? Many of the Evanses in New Orleans are Catholic... might have something to do with the partners they married; perhaps some of them were Catholic. Now.... if I could just find a Bible for Richard and Samuel who lived in Maryland and Pennsylvania! We might really make some progress in finding out where the Evanses came from in Wales.
