D. His fathers name was David. His decendants married into Williams and Marshall and Byrd. But his contemporary relatives married into the Daltons. I think if you can get a list of "Contrell's Raiders" you'll get your answer as the James and youngers and daltons all rode with him during the war. My ancestor David Evans 1765-1849 had a son johnson r. 1818-1896 he was with the 8th confederate confederate cavalry Co. D Mo. whose relates married into the Daltons. As far as I can tell the James and youngers & daltons all rode with Contrell's Raiders during the war. If someone can find a roster of that Col.'s unit they'll find out if the Evans were connected. TN census was my ggggrandfather. The children listed in the 1860 census were from his second marriage (wife unknown). I am descended from Josiah G. Evans, offspring of Berry's first wife (name unknown). It is possible that the Wayne Co. Berry Evans is the same as the Berry T. Evans listed in the 1840 Muary Co. TN census. His son, Josiah, was married in adjoining Lawrence Co. TN in 1849. Josiah moved to Wayne Co. TN sometime after 1855. I would like to exchange info with anyone interested in this Evans line. Greetings, I've been given permission to announce on this list that over the next couple of days I will be introducing a new Evans list specifically designed to focus on the Evans family [Richard, Samuel] who migrated from Maryland>Pennsylvania>Kentucky>Ohio and with sub branches migrating to Indiana and Louisiana, among other locales. Of course we are also interested in all allied surnames affiliated with this group of Evanses. This smaller list will allow us to have a more focused discussion without infringing on the time of the members of this larger Evans list who have no connection to this branch. If you are related to this particular line and would like to participate, please contact me at listadministratorevans@earthlink.net and I will send you an invitation when it is up and running. Thanks, Renee in St. Louis

My Cynthia Evans was Cynthia Alexander Evans who was married to William McClure way back in 1835....so too early for your search, but still interesting. Dad was born January 02 1905 and his sister was born in 1908; both were english citizens. I don't think that your William and Florence are connected unless it is further back. James died in West Bromwich the 19th of November 1880 within 2 weeks of falling ill. Hannah gave birth to my grandmother on 3rd of January 1881. James worked for the Horsely Works as a mechanical draughtsman and in the 1881 census Hannah was a small shop keeper and Ernest then 23 was the head of the house and his occupation was listed as Bridge draughtsman worker. No mention of Arthur or Archibald so they may have been sent to relatives to live or they were away at school or working. Florence married a Sedgley and died in 1966 at Brosley Shropshire. Her son was William Henry and he and his sister-also Florence were sent to Canada by the Birmmingham Home in 1915. Does anyone have information about this Evans family? I will be most willing to share what little knowledge about them that I have. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
