I was writing from memory [not a good practice in my case]. Anyway, I checked my files and found his death certificate. Here is the note I attached to it: Here is our "Honey Boy's" Death Certificate. Note that he is listed as William George Evans, having been born in Wales to John Evans and Elizabeth Downing [incorrect: should be Dowling]. He was born on March 10, 1870; died at age 44 years 11 months 23 days on March 5, 1915.... of pancreatic cancer. He was in the Union Protestant Infirmary for about 3 days before he died. He is to be buried in Streater, Ill [incorrect: Streator, Illinois] on March 6 1915. [which is pretty amazing that they were able to get the remains there in 24 hours] Don't see any reference to his wife; no mention of her name... His occupation: actor, playwright. Author: rebornblessed Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/1305.1432.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Speaking of Evan Evans of Wales - I have one in my history, but I'm not sure how he connects. Background: there was an American minstrel named "Honey Boy Evans" who lived in the mid to late 1800's. He was born in Wales and his parents ended up in Streator, Illinois. He moved all over the US because of his show business bookings. At one point he made this statement: "An important article because we hear from him in his own words. We learn that he lived in St. Louis for a short time. And we have a great quote in: "I am a Welshman. I have a brother named Evan Evans - that's Welsh enough for anybody, I guess." I really don't know much more about his family. He visited my group of Evanses in Gretna/New Orleans frequently and he was always referred to as a "cousin," but I've never seen any genealogy charts which included him. I've asked questions about "Honey Boy" on the message boards before and never gotten an answer. I have a small collection of photos and articles on him, if anyone else knows him.
