Benjamin and Mary were married on 6 May 1814 in Adair County, KY. Benjamin was the son of Thomas EVANS (mother unknown) and Mary was the daughter of Philip WINFREY and Martha NORTHCUTT. Based on census information, Benjamin and Mary had six children including two sons, one named Philip (b: ca 1818, Kentucky) and another named James H. (b: Sep 1825, Kentucky). Evans relatives on both paternal and maternal sides. I have not yet made a connection between the two families. An Andrew Evans was in Washington Co. Va. during Rev. War and was one of "Overmountain Men" who marched from Sycamore Shoals area in East Tenn. to Kings Mt. South Carolina and defeated the British, killing their General, and many soldiers and capturing the rest, and some say, this was the turning point in the Rev. War. My info says he was from Frederick Co. Va. born about 1760. He is supposedly buried in Sinking Springs Cemetery in present Wash. Co. Va. During colonial days and before, Virginia claimed the upper part of Tenn. Washingto Co. Va. actually extended South of the present State line and included a large part of Tenn. They thought the State boundary was the Holston River. Many people who were said to have lived in Va. were actually in present day Tenn. Go on the Library of Virginia web site and look for the Gordan Aronhime papers. I saw some info in his papers about Andrew Evans and some of his children. Go to my public tree appalachian Mountain Ancesters on ancestry . com to find my Evans ancesters, and what I know about them. I have one son of Littleberry Evans, a William Wesley Evans born 1797 in Russell Co. Va. and moved to Loretta Tenn. Died about 1844. He had a son named Berry Evans who died at about 21 years of age 1861 of an accidental gunshot wound at a confederate army base in Tenn. Is this the same William you mention? I happened upon your post and was interested in your Littleberry EVANS (originally) of Mecklenburg CO NC and then found in the area of Washington CO VA. It seems that Andrew EVANS was born 1759 in Mecklenburg NC (PER his Rev War Pension Appl) and he marr to Elizabeth FAIN. This Andrew seems to be connected to my William EVANS family of Washington CO VA; this Evans clan of Frederick CO VA prior to that. Both of these Evans families migrate to TN @ the same time. Both of these Evans families end up in the same area of IN @ the same time. I have 'connections' to both of these Evans families through my TAYLOR line. I have wondered, as many others have, if these two Evans families were connected somehow. Since your Littleberry EVANS was of Mecklenburg CO, NC, and also of Russell CO, VA ... I was hoping that you could tell me about him. I was also wondering if you had run into an Andrew EVANS b)1759 in your research? William Evans, my GGgrandfather was 'of Welshpool' and I don't know if he was born there as he is not in the 1841 Wales Census. It is such a common name that I'm following any leads I can find. The Evans in Wales and the US often married their cousin and there was a considerable ovemment of Welsh people in the early 1800's as they went where ever they could make a living. Radnorshire is next to Montgomeryshire and by US standards Welshpool and Radnor are not far from each other. Have any of your Evans relatives had their DNA tested? It cold give some information about which Evans line your family descends from. My mitochondrial DNA is Haplogroup T2 which is not rare but somewhat uncommon in the Welsh population. This put me in contact with another person with Haplogroup T2 who was an exact match. His mo! st direct maternal ancestor was Elizabeth Evans b. 1816 Welshpool. Her descendents eventually migrated to England and he lives in Germany. We are looking for a paper trail to connect my Ann who married William Evans of Welshpool with his Elizabeth Evans. There is an Evans surname progect at Family Tree DNA which is shedding some light on the Y DNA male Evans lines. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
