    1. [EVANS] J. E. Evans and woman charged with adultery - got married
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: maryachtrh Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9883/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 19 March 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma CHARGE DID NOT SPECIFY Alva: J. E. Evans, of near Phroso, and a woman of the same neighborhood were arrested some weeks ago, charged with living in adultery. Evans came to Alva, gave bond for appearance before the grand jury, secured a marriage license and returned home and marred the woman; this the couple thought would settle the trouble, but somebody pushed the matter before the grand jury and had them both indicted. The indictment charged them with having lived for some time in "open and notorious" adultery, but Evans employed Attorney Jesse J. Dunn to look after his case in court and Jesse called the court's attention to the fact that the statutes didn't mention any particular king of adultery, hence the indictment should be quashed and Judge Pancoast so ruled. Evans and wife went home and perhaps will not be further troubled. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Poore, born in Claiborne Co., Tn. in 1857. My Poore name comes from his mother. I decided to do a dna test because an elderly aunt of mine indicated that his father may have been an Evans. I matched Pleasant Holt, the nephew of Elijah Evans. Pleasant's father and mother lived adjacent to Elijah and his wife. Pleasant's dna and mine did not match the dna of his brother Preston Holt's descendants. On a 37 marker test I matched 36 markers with George Abner Evans born in Georgia in 1859, Pleasant also matched. I believe he may be a descendant of the three Evans brothers that went to Ga. from Va. It has been very difficult to determine his father. I suspect my dna would probably match Elijah's. My cousin is a descendant of Wm.(1756) through John (1776). This is a direct line from George E. Evans,Sr. George Jr. and William were brothers. I am trying to get my cousin to test. I have not made the connection with the Ga. line. There has to be one ! because of the dna. I noticed on the 1840 census for Claiborne Co., the my ggggrandfather Jesse Poore lived two residences from Newton A. Evans, who was a son of Walter born in 1767, who was the son of George Sr. Any information you have would be very helpful because I am trying to find relationships and trends that may link to Ga. I noticed that the name Rhoda would indicate an indirect link. My email is: doctorpens@aol.com. Please feel free to contact me. McCollum. On her son's social security application he lists her is mother as Mary (Mollie) Evans. 2)On census records, sometimes she is listed as Mollie J. and other times Mary J. or Mary I. I have concluded that Mollie was her nickname. 3) The census records indicated her birth year is 1869 same as Mary J. or I.'s birth year in Warwick and Susan's family. 4) She also states that her parents were born in Georgia and South Carolina. I checked census records for all Evans families living in Jackson County. There were 5 or 6. The family heads old enough to be her parents, all were born in Alabama or Tennessee. Warwick and Susan are the only ones from Georgia and South Carolina...The same birth places for Warwick & Susan. 5) Dave McCollum and his family lived in Jackson County when she married him, specifically the same town Kirby's Mill that Warwick lived in. This is the only Evans family living there in Kirby's Mill at the time. 6) In the 1900 census, she and Dave are living next door to Leander R. Evans which would be her brother. 7) Her son's middle name was Asberry leading me to believe he was named after his uncle Asberry, brother to Warwick. Based on all of this evidence, I am reasonably certain that Mary J. or Mary I. and Mollie J. are one and the same daughter of Warwick. The only Mollie Evans in this line is a daughter of Asbury Evans, brother of Warwick, but she was born in 1876, so too young to have married in 1888 (only 12!). Another brother, David, had a daughter named Mary J (?) born about 1860. Warwick had a daughter named Mary J or I, born about 1869, and Asbury had another daughter with the initials M. E. born about 1875 (this may also be Mollie, but records unclear), so she's a bit young, too. I don't know anything about any of these girls. What info do you have on your Mollie or Mary that makes you believe she's Warwick's daughter? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [EVANS] Looking for Info on William H. Evans
    2. William was born October 11, 1813 in Holly Hills, SC. By 1840 he was living in Newport, Tennessee and married Amilia Elizabeth Mims. They had 8 to 10 children. William died in 1863. I've tried everything I know to try and identify William's father, but keep hitting a brick wall. No one even seems to know why or how William H. ended up in Tennessee. Ancestry.com has him listed as a son of Rowland Evans, the Rev. War soldier, but that is incorrect. Rowland did had a son William, but it wasn't William H. Rowland was killed in 1781 and William was not born until 1813. Just a little gap in the calendar there. :) I suspect, but can't prove, that the lineage goes Rowland, William, then William H. I found William on the 1830 SC census, with a son of the correct age bracket, but of course that doesn't really prove anything. I even found a brief family history written by another branch of the family, but it was mostly about Rowland firstborn son John. Unfortunately, it had almost no information about William or his descendants. Any suggestions or information would be welcome. Thanks Jeanne
