Does anyone know anything about Hanes or Haynes Evans living in Brunswick Co, NC in 1885 till his death around 1922. He may have lived here prior to that date, but I know he was married here in the year 1885. He married Bridget Ann. He is my Great great grandfather. My grandmother said he immigrated here from England with his 3 brothers at a young age. I am not sure how accurate this information is. He was born approx. 1861. 1. [EVANS] Hardy Evans found dead near Hemphill, Texas
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: maryachtrh Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9954/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 27 June 1908 Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma MOB HANGS FIVE: SIXTH NEGRO SHOT Bodies Discovered Mile North of Courthouse at Hemphill, Texas Hemphill, Texas, June 22 - Five negroes, all hanged to one dogwood tree, was the grewsome spectacle that met the gaze of hundred of spectators on the Hemphill and Bronson road this morning about one mile from the court house at Hemphill. They were taken from the Hemphill jail about 1 o'clock last night by a determined mob of about 200 men. Six of them in all were taken out, and they were the negroes charged with the murder of Hugh Dean, which occurred at Rockhill church, near Geneva, two weeks ago Saturday night. One of the negroes taken by the mob tried to escape and was shot. Nine negroes killed in Sabine County within the past two weeks is the known record, and two white men within the past two weeks. Both white men, Hugh Dean and Arie Johnson, were among the most prominent families in Sabine County, and were prominently connected throughout this section. The six negroes taken from the jail last night were: Jerry Evans, aged about 18 years, Will Johnson, about 20 years, Moss Spellman, about 22 years, Cleve Williams, about 20 years and Will Manuel, 30 years. "Rabbitt" Bill McCoy, a negro about 40 years old, was killed last night in front of the home of Arie Johnson, and a pistol was found full cocked by the side of his body. Williams, whose age was about 20 years, was taken out by the mob, but slipped the ropes from his neck and hands and made an attempt to escape. He was shot. The body of Hardy Evans, one of the principals of the Dean murder, is reported as having been found on the Hemphill and San Augustine Road, about half-way between the two places. A negro whose name cannot be ascertained is reported as being killed, but there are many wild rumors afloat of other negroes having been killed in the county. At the present time these nine are the only ones whose names can be given with any degree of certainty. It is believed that all of them were connected with the killing of either Hugh Dean or Arie Johnson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jenklow Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9803.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John Wesley Evans was born 15 Apr 1807 in Tennessee. He married Mary Elizabeth Replogle on 26 Mar 1839 in Tennessee. They moved to Senatobia, DeSoto County, Mississippi by 1850. Part of DeSoto County became Tate County later on. I know John Wesley had a brother born between 1800-1810 and a sister born between 1810-1815. I'm not sure their names, I just know it from the 1830 Census of Madison County, Tennessee. John Wesley's father was also named John. By 1830, John Wesley's father (John) is no longer found in Madison County. I'm not sure if he died or moved out of the area. I wish I could be of more help. :) Jenny Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BETTYRAMSEY Surnames: Evans, Ramsey, Meeks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/9951/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sara Ramsey m. Cullen Meeks who died in 1799 and had a daughter named Purneal in her grandfather's will of 1813/1815 and Milly in a deed recording a gift of cattle from Thomas to Milly. Sara later married an Evans, as she was called Sara Evans in her fathers will of 1813/1815. One of the wtnesses of Thomas' will was Lewis Evans. Was he the husband of Sara? Then we find the deed abstracted below. Deed: "Thomas Ramsey Senr. for love, good will & affection ....loving granddaughter Milly Meeks, Miner (sic) of Duplin......[list of livestock] ...which cattle is now in possession of John J. Even of Duplin...." Was John Evans the second husband of Sara Ramsey?? We would like to know more about Purneal/Milly - who she married, where she went and her descendants, as we already have numerous descendants from other children of Thomas. Also would like other descendants of Sara and ? Evans if any. We are more than willing to share what we have with connected individuals.
