And WHERE is Highland County you ask, after much effort to find Butler County since you did not tell us where it was, is actually due East of Butler County about 40-50 miles. Thanks, Peggy. I would like to reemphasize your point because I have the same problem with some folks on my Degruy list who are rather new users of the Internet/Email and do not realize that email etiquette considers the use of all caps to be rude and the equivalent of shouting. Generally the folks who tend to capitalize everything have four motivations that I can think of: 1. They are new to the Internet and Email and have no idea of the proper etiquette with regards to using all Caps 2. They are elderly and use all Caps because they can see Caps more easily. ( this has never worked for me - I find all Caps much more difficult to read and frequently will just skip over any message with all Caps because it irritates my eyes; so I just won't bother with them) 3. They are frustrated by the inability to use [on Rootsweb mailing lists] italics, boldface, underline or any other means of emphasis commonly found in word processing programs. [Unfortunately these lists don't allow foreign accent marks - which is Really inconvenient] 4. They really are shouting [The repetitive use of all Caps for this particular reason can result in an individual being banned from a list]. Whatever, I appreciate your bringing this issue to our attention [I have to make this reminder occasionally on the two message lists I administer]. Have a great Sunday, Renee >Message: 4 >Date: Sat, 12 Apr 2008 10:14:17 -0500 >From: Kinhunter <[email protected]> >Subject: [EVANS] From Admin; Please Read. re: "WHERE IS "BUTLER > COUNTY, OHIO" >To: ",Evans" <[email protected]> >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > >Hello Everyone, > >The message sent below was in response to an Evans Message Board post >(which I have included) that is gatewayed to the list. In the online "New York Clipper," a show busines newspaper for June 16, 1920, I found this entry: " Walter Fenner, a vaudeville performer with "Show Me," was married to Edith Evans in Los Angeles recently." This marriage ended in a 1927 Los Angeles divorce. In 1933 Edith EVANS married my cousin Ray MAYER (born Raymond MAHER 1901 in Lexington, NE). They were the show business team of MAYER and EVANS. I cannot find any civil documentation or record of the Fenner marriage or divorce. Ed Broecker
Hello Everyone, The message sent below was in response to an Evans Message Board post (which I have included) that is gatewayed to the list. As stated below the board post, the person that posted the query to the board may not even be on this mailing list. You need to go to the board to make comments and queries about the posting. If you see a message board post to the list, which will say [email protected] and Message Board URL , please go to the link in the message and answer at the message board. If I don't know where a location is, I Google it. I rarely have seen any queries throughout my 20 plus years of doing genealogy where someone puts the mileage from a large city to the area in question. But, if that is what someone would like, then ask nicely. That said, this has always been a very cordial and helpful list. "Shouting" at folks only insults the person and inflames a situation. I ask that everyone please refrain from doing so. I have changed the setting on the mailing list so that all responses to list queries go directly to the list, not to the person that asked it. That way the answer may benefit someone else. I can find Butler County, OH by doing a simple Google search or going to anyone of a dozen or so online mapping programs. It's when they put just a city or state and no county or just a cemetery name and state that drives me crazy. Occasionally (actually often) there is more than one cemetery in a state (or even a county) with the same name. Sometimes there are even cities/towns with the same name in the same state. A little patience would go a long way in helping others.

Have you ever heard of maps? Atlases? You can get that information in a couple of minutes if you have one. Try a Rand McNally road atlas; see if it works for you. For whatever it might be worth, county plus state is a pretty good start for locating places. The people *I'm* mad at are the ones that give a town or cemetery name with no county *or* no state.

Thanks (ie. I have an original EVANS Family of "HUGH EVANS" who were original settlers of "HIGHLAND COUNTY, OHIO" (east of Cincinnati about 40+ miles) that settled there in 1800+ !!!! Or one can look in the Handy Book for Genealogists by Evertion Publishers and find that Butler County, Ohio was created in 1803 and the county seat is Hamilton. Taking that info online to Google Earth which tells us that Hamilton, Ohio is located at 39° 23' 56.74" N 84° 33' 36,66" W. If the person enquiring knew how close it was to a major city, they would probably be able to find it themself. ;-) Bob Robert Evans Page **************It's Tax Time!
